Unlike other threads that have been started here there is no indication which is real and which is fake. Some are obvious granted but what about the ones not broken open?

So the original Sankens have the double thickness headers. Then one could probably notch thru the topside to check without destroying??

Yes but that wouldn't make much difference. You still can't see the die. :scratch:

Well, one thing is for sure, because of fakes, now people don't trust almost anyone, even those who sells genuine parts. Goddamn paranoia.

Well... There is the capacitance meter which gives good correalation to die size too. I really doubt if the cheaters are going to adopt the more expensive 2x header package near term.

The original sanken's would most likely be HEAVIER. MT-200's are all to-3p's welded on to a MT-200 slug. The to-3p slug's weight would be added to the MT-200's. Those fakes just have a die glued to the mt-200 (no to-3p slug). A sensitive letter scale would most likely show the difference (real thing would weigh 4-5 grams more).

I have broken open hundred's of mt-200's (classic Japanese amp's)

Genuine Sankens, in general, have the molded letters pointed by the red arrows.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Original Sanken parts usually have the HFE rank/grade included in the printed marking. For the 2SC2922, it's the last letter in the marking O,Y,P,G. Check Sanken's datasheet for valid HFE grading on specific parts. If the letter is missing on the device itself or not a valid HFE grade as per datasheet, it's a fake.

Check Sanken's website ->SANKEN ELECTRIC : Power Transistors : For Power Amplifier for current products. Most of their current transistors can replace their old discontinued transistors. I would stay away from parts that have been discontinued for a long time. The chances of these being fake are very high.

Originals also have mold markings on the some of the 4 small holes/depression. It could be a number or letter.

Fakes are not flat on the back side. Lay them on a glass or really flat surface and try turning them. Fake MT-200 transistors will turn more than once simply because they are not truly flat and even.

Bought some stuff from them ( item was good) and promptly got Spammed by Buyshield.com to buy buyer protection (they blamed Ebay for the Spam, such liars).

Buyshield would not protect my $4.00 item, but they did provide for an offensive customer service experience for free......LOL

Not the same device as this thread is about, but if I may I would like to tell you that:
I just got 2pcs of 2SD2401 from eama0910, a chinese ebayer.

-Markings look like pretty bad print quality
-I got Y instead of P (P on the photo)
-I measure quite reasonable characteristics
-Cut the casing a bit and guess what...double thickness.

Measuring B-E capacitance at 10kHz 1V gives 6nF, at 0.2V about 0.3nF
I guess 1V is enough for the transistor to conduct and thus value is different?

I was so afraid to order from China that I ordered in parallel from UK.
Transistors from UK look also good.

Photos are of the chinese transistor.
I guess they are genuine then? Or what do you guys say?

I need to buy pair of 2SC2922/2SA1216 transistors. Unfortunately, they are officially only available in Digikey and they are too expensive. Therefore I looking for other local supplier. I found the transistors here -> 2SC2922 + 2SA1216 tranzystory SANKEN NAJTANIEJ!!! (6221015604) - Allegro.pl - Wi?cej ni? aukcje.. But I am not sure they are not fakes. Pay attention on lot number.

I still have this picture from the back.

What do you think about that? Fake or genuine?

Fake for sure!!!Look at those metal tabs from the back.They are not even straight,very bad quality!!

I also found some more expensive transistors and the seller also sent me a picture from the front and the back.

Maybe these are genuine? What do you think about that? For me these look better. But photos are not good quality...
