Because I'm willing to place the speakers against a wall, or very close, so I prefer having enough space for cables.

Built a center speaker for my home theatre, using 2 Visaton W100S woofers, a Sounderlink Neo3 PDR clone, and an AMT tweeter.
The crossover is done on a linux pc, using 2 Asus D2X sound cards, my own written ladspa host, and ladspa plugins from: ladspa-t5-plugins :: T5! DIY Audio Software & Hardware
The crossover between the mid and tweeter could be a little better, but I'm not sure how to do that yet. Once I figure that out though, it's just a matter of moving some sliders in a webinterface to change it.
Also the Neo3 PDR clone has a very large peak at 1 kHz, but luckily that doesn't show up in the overall frequency response.

Yes. I'm assuming you tried the Neo 3 and found it inadequate. Just guessing. I find the little AMT very smooth and detailed, but not reaching down low enough. I've been considering trying them as satellites with some 6.5" Dynavox, and 4" Dayton carbon fiber woofers, as satellite speakers.
The BG speakers I have, don't quite blend with dynamic drivers, so far in my best efforts.

My route was the other way around, I like the little AMT a lot, and wanted something matching for the lower frequencies. However I find the Neo 3 difficult to use, possibly because of its peaky frequency response. My crossover is a DSP so it can be fixed, but it will take me some time to get it right.
Using the Neo 3 with just a woofer and a passive crossover would be very difficult to get right I think.

I will add my contribution to this thread with a description of my system. I'm a long term reader but don't post often.
As of today :
-source fiio m11 as a transport in SPDIF (remote controlled using fiio link)
-dac/preamplifier/crossover/room correction etc is a DEQX HDP-3
-subwoofers/woofers are visaton tiw250xs in quad cabs with side passive radiators from CSS, amplifiers are bryston 7b cubed mono blocs
-midranges are music concrete JMLC 320HZ horns in composite concrete with JBL 2440 and radiant diaphragms, amplifiers are shishido 808 in A2 class
-highs are azura horns 1200hz custom 5/8" opening with BMS 4526nd for 2.5khz and up, amplifier is a simple paralleled 6n1p to a triode configured 7189 or a pair of SETH PP 2a3 mono blocs (lacking space on the rack for them)
It's a challenge to stay within 3 ways using horns, and without compromising the low end extension too much.
that's where I am right now and my next move is building my vertical rack to stack the horns.

try moving the speaker as close as possible to the wall to minimize the mid range ripple caused by the boundary.

Here are my wonderfull sounding Synergy Horns. The original design is by SpeakerScott, and i redesigned the enclosure to my needs.
I don´t have the words and intention to wrtite a colourful sound description.
Trust Scott and my words: "They really are THAT good!"
The inner horn, top, side and bottom are black mdf boards. The rest is solid oak, with a little brass inlay at the horn mouth and removable side panels.

They have great bass, but i dont expect any speaker to handle my deep bass needs. the sub is crossed through my nad t758 v3 and dirac, and it only plays 27-55hz. it really gives a nice solid bass foundation for the synergies.
Will build a second one soon and place it under the horns, however i am not sure if should go for a closed enclosure for the subs.

I think they make great speakers, the price is higher but they produce in germany AFAIK.
I had the famous german diy speaker "duetta" which can be seen in the backround, it really sounded great, but the tweeter alone costs as much as one of my synergies in materials, xover included and i would definetly say that the synergies sound better.
That said, the synergie project really made me wonder how much one really has to spend on parts to get world class sound.
I also bought my eton speakers used on ebay etc., there are good deals to score.
