It's been a while but I don't remember joining anything or taking a test. I tried my universal log-in but no-go so I don't think I joined. I never have to log-in to get manuals.

Strange, I had to take a technical quiz before I could join and download.
I got the schematics of Passion 1000 and 300, they are similar. Any other schematics for other models. Or that's the typical design of YBA?
I got to the point of taking the quiz and I stopped.
I was so impressed with the sound of one of the YBA I listened to in 1998. It was only a 70W per channel small amp. It kicked the butt of my Acurus. But the circuit is even more primitive than the Acurus. One major difference I can see is YBA use degenerate resistors in the IPS differential pairs where Acurus does not. So the open loop gain of YBA is lower. Also YBA closed loop feedback gain is higher, together with lower loop gain, the YBA has a lot lower loop gain and output impedance is higher.

Alan, the amp you heard in 1998 was likely an YBA 2 Alpha. Very good indeed.
I just bought a YBA 1 Alpha of the same period and the sound is wonderful.
One of the secret of its good performances is the quality of its main transformers.
Enjoy the old YBA sound!
