I use the power section of the CA-2010 at class A operation only as I have many preamp (solid state and valves).
Compare class A (30W or 40w) to class AB (100W) of CA-2010, class A is much pleasant to my ear, sweeter, more air and detail.
MX-1 is running short of class A, I don't know the exact technology behind but definitely it is not the typical class AB sound, but closer to class A.
It all depends on the type of musics you are listening, to me 40W pure class A is lacking the punch and authority when listen to Holst's Planet.
I have not seriously listened to the preamp section of the CA-2010. Have a Yamaha C-2X so don't bother to try it out.
As an alternative to MX-1, you can keep an eye on Yamaha M800 or M-1000 power amp, better than p2500 in your mind. Quality of watt is more important than quantity.
How much you are paying for the AudioNote cable?

Re the B1 , it's true that they are very difficult to find now, and the real problem comes when you need replacement V-fets. I can confirm that they are IMPOSSIBLE to source. Even in the late '90s the only remaining stock was at Yamaha Canada, who quickly sold out. There were apparently capacitor issues that could cause burn-outs involving the V-fets.
I have to be honest and say that IMHO the P2500 is an amplifier distinguished more for it's reliablity in PA applications than its sonics. I've heard many of them. The B1 is absolutely in a totally different league. I've experienced the walls of a basement recording studio control room vibrating when a B1 was invited ( not through NS-1000's of course !) to reproduce an extremely low-frequency analogue synth bass note from a Chick Corea master (analogue tape) played back on a Studer stereo machine - quite astonishing. The track containing this bass note could simply not be cut onto vinyl without being passed through an elliptical equalizer first to tame it ( according to my mastering engineer friend at CBS who had to cut it....).
A commercial power amp could not reproduce the note at all. An Electrocompaniet ( original Norwegian, not Scottish) power amp was aware that the note was there , but couldn't do much about it. The B1 just rocked the room.
I've heard recently from an extremely reliable source in Tokyo that someone has bought the production line equipment for B1 amps from Yamaha, and is actually manufacturing the V-fets to go in his "new" B1 amps. I was even told what the new amps are called. but can't remember now, - a quick search hasn't unearthed the relevant mail. I will post again when I have concrete info.

Is the B2 as good as the B1 in sound quality? Seeing the B2 is rated at 100wpc & my CA-2010 is 120wpc does the B1 & B2 have a completely different sound are they in a completely different league.
I want to respray my woofer grills anyone removed them before?

HI Hugomac,
I'm afraid I must confess my own ignorance about B-2 sonics , never having had the opportunity to hear one.
I haven't personally removed a woofer grille, but have had success straightening them ( ie pulling them out back into shape) with titanium tools looking like dental implements sold by rswww.com ( an NS-1000M owner in a neighbouring business had the tools).

Now there are some good advices here and some not so good. Besides uppgrading the filtercomponents (think powercapacity for the woofers, no thiny coils or single resistors!) an easy way to uppgrade sound is to get some heavy gauge solid core copper. Heavy begins at 9awg for woofers, 13awg or so for tweeters. Improves sound alot, specially dynamics & bass but also calms down and opens up.
Be aware: the copper needs about one hour of rough massage to start playing😉

Audiojoy how much does the AN-SPx Silver cable? I've tried to get it in Australia but can't they said it could be as much as $500 Aus a Metre. I have been offered a Yamaha B2 from a friend for $1000 Aus. Is it worth it? Also was the Pioneer PD 65 better than the 75? I can only seem to buy Caps in lots of 50 have you got any spare?
Thanks
Hugo
Thanks

I using 2 pcs of 47uf of Mundoft Mcaps pretty good sound. Its easier to mount than the ducatis i believe. Price wise is pretty good. This are the white versions
Do check them out
the others you would have to parallel. for the 3.5u, get 3.3 and 0.22uf and the 2.7 uf is avaliable
thanks

$1000 for a Yamaha B2 is very good price if the condition is good.
But do make use that all the VFET as are no defects.
Replacing any defective Vfet are nearly impossible, if that B2 was modified and not using VFEt, it is not worth the $$$.
Sound from Vfet is magic, I never have a chance to listen to B2, but i can imagine it could be a better sounding power amp than the MX-1.
I admire you can get a B2 locally. It is a highly collectible.

yes i have spare caps, give me your details and i will check postage. I will only charge you postage for them.
I haver to confess the AN anspx is expensive I have had to use these cables mostly for wiring the crossover to the speaker then internally i have used a combination of audionote and vandenhul hybrid speaker cable. The latter worked well with the tweeter adding much needed warmth and tonal shading. The anspa in my opinion is very close in sound to the spx and is cheaper to buy.
I will get a close up picture of my crosssover for you shortly.

if i remember correctly the pd75 had the better top of the range reference stable platter mechanism made of copper, whereas the 65 was more akin to the s-06 which i own and is still made of plastic parts. Not 100% sure though

I appologise for asking here,,but you guys seem to know more about these than I.
What would be a fair price for a set of these gems today if I could find some.

Hugomac- did you get my pics? I PM'd them to you about 4 days ago.
If you are doing simple mods to the existing xover unit, I can help you. If you are doing a total overhaul as audiojoy did, best to contact him.
Post 201 explains my mod quite well. If you need help, feel free to PM me.
Cheers- Kent

Hi Hugomac and Salas
Hugomac been very busy over recent weeks.I will email you shortly with the cost for postage but please be patient.
SALAS my friend, I just had to try your KISS DP1000 cd player used as a transport. Got it for £20, and boy did it feel like 10p worth when i got it, the tray was so flimsy it almost snapped off in my hand when i first tried to put a cd into it!!!!!!
BUT boy was i surprised when I heard its sound. Spades of clarity and separation but without any loss of emotion or colour from the performance. Was overall probably better than my Pioneer stable platter transports i had grown so fond of. A rare achievement indeed. What further upgrades did you do to it???

I have done nothing inside it. It will not respond positively. Accidents, you can never upgrade. Its just I discovered it. I use 3x 1kg weight training discs arranged in a triangle on its top, because its so flimsy. You know the little ones for dumbbells. It also likes this cable on its digital output.
Salas is it the mogami 2964 coax cable you are using as interconnects and speaker cables ????
Just read up on the mission 774 and denon dl160 as well as the Benchmark Cd player. Yes the reviews indicate that these are all giant killers. These are interesting and even with my avid internet reading I never did catch onto any of these products. I wonder just how good they are in bringing music alive? I do know one thing for sure and that is that there exist gems which often cost peanuts in the world of hifi.

The Benchmark is a DAC. And I use the KISS DP-1000 DVD solely as a CD transport. Yes all my stuff is DIY and what I can't make is anti snake oil.😎 There are better but not for my humble DIYer's pocket. Vinyl can't be beaten by any digital even when with just a decent and correctly set up TT & cart in my experience. The Mogami is #3082. For interconnects I use whatever.😀
