Some messy fun with stain today on my W5-2143’s. I applied “Espresso” on rather thick and let it soak for about 45min then wiped off. I might add a second stain coat on the front baffle tomorrow. Will seal the stain in BLO in a few days. This is a good sounding speaker. I assembled this a while ago and forgot that it has a 1mH and 4.7R BSC to balance the treble and bass.

The W5-2143 XKi boxes are pretty much finished now with 1 coat of boiled linseed oil on them. I'll let it cure for a few weeks and then add a second coat. The espresso stain turned out nicely.

They fit nicely in the cubby hole for the TV stand so makes more room for the dance studio:

I have a couple of Audax 13LB25AL, courtesy of a very generous JoeHollis.

https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/pdf/13LB25AL.pdf

They are exceptionally well built, heavy, and may have the right stuff for an XKi.

I want to experiment with some XPS and foamcore for them.

xrk, could you please run a simulation with these TS parameters?

Sorry if I missed it but are there any documented sims of a 15" xki

I'm pondering if a large xki lying on its side (low boy style ) with either a full k slot front aperture or just a flat piece of wood could be a superior alternative to a lklipsxh lascala or belle bass bin (assuming similar dimensions / volume) in terms of
* Higher freq.response .. say 1 KHZ
* Lower bass response (say 40 Hz. )
* More punch

Fwiw ,. I have access to eminence kappa 15c drives and crites cast woofers (equivalent to the original k33 klipsch woofers)

-- here's a little offset driver sub from a few years back I would have liked to tried by TB46 (he's still kickin' ! :D)

An added stub to the front chamber should help with some K-designs. K15 w. 604 is still my reference for Gary Karr's "Spirit of Koussevitzky" album

wonder how much effect the small aperture would have with this cavity? (on a side note, R-J have very little cavity and are
fun)

X - - What might be the differences in the midrange between these two variations ? Can an import of a simple K from a 3D CAD drawing into Akabak 3 shed some light on things?

- bet these would be great for electric bass guitar

Yo X, did you try any tweaks yet with your PA130?

I have a suggestion/idea: cut a disk from aluminum foil to cover the dustcap. Spray it with Super 77 and apply. It would be easily reversible by warming with a hair dryer etc and pulling it off. If you wanted to get fancy you could do it with a few pie slices to avoid wrinkles.
I have made aluminum dust caps to cover damaged ones by rubbing heavy weight foil with a pestle in a suitably radiused bowl to avoid wrinkles

It's harder to make small aluminum domes. I have made them for larger speakers from aluminum pie pans. Some pans aren't malleable enough to form, seems like cheaper thinner pans work best. This pic is just from heavy weight foil and the size is about the size of the knob on my pestle. If I get serious about making a couple for my PA-130s I think I might use my wood lathe to turn a depression in a scrap of hardwood just the right size for forming a dome.
