Thats what I was thinking off, some 3 phase industrial woodworking stuff goes for peanuts compared to the price of DIY stuff.

Yes . I think Andrew and me are serious 3 phase devotees . Some amplifiers actually use it . The maths simplifies to 230 V x root 3 . Diesel electric / electric locomotives use a variation of this for traction .
