I was thinking more about how the carry on films portrayed ancient Rome and the wild west.
I see what you mean, Bungitin of the Burper tribe wasn't a very accurate portral of a late 1800s Kyber Pass tribesman either.
I was thinking about the one where they went on strike at the toilet factory because they had run out of toilet rolls. Quite literally toilet humour.
Did you mean specifically youth gangs?
Yes I do, they have always been a problem but the level of violence among them is definitely escalating. A child murder used to be a major event in our country not so very long ago. Remember the Bulger case? The shock from that reverberated for months after. If that happend today it would be pushed off the front pages very quickly, probably within a week by the next child hacked or stabbed or shot, then the next etc. Maybe it's better not to know the statistics about certain things.
In the United States it's been falling consistently since 1990. Easy stat to find.
I know impressions are just that but we see news reports of mass shootings there almost every week, quite often in schools and carried out by children.
Stats are very often manipulated so how do you know which stats are accurate?
I can't speak accurately about such problems in the USA as I am a Brit who has never been there which is why I was originally talking to another Brit about the rising level of violence in Britain.
I don't read newspapers but there is ample coverage online given to killings of the underage in this country IMO so I cannot agree with you on that.If that happend today it would be pushed off the front pages very quickly, probably within a week by the next child hacked or stabbed or shot, then the next etc. Maybe it's better not to know the statistics about certain things.
You saying there is ample coverage of such killings tends to suggest such incidents do happen quite frequently btw. My point is they happen more frequently than in the past. You must have noticed this.
That is not what I said. I was responding to your saying that IF it happened it would vanish quickly. However 3 murders of under 18s in the last year from memory have had what I would consider adequate coverage.
In February there was Brianna Ghey
In August there was Sara Sharif which let to an international manhunt
In September there was a 15 year old girl in Croydon whose name was not released
And that's ignoring the school in Wimbledon where a woman left the road and killed 2 children having their end of term party on the lawn. That one really sent shivvers down my spine.
Over 18s killing themselves in drug turf battles I do not tend to follow but Slough just up the road and where my daughter works is a fairly rough town in places.
All of these are tragedies, but compared to some of the awful things going on each day in some parts of the world UK is a safe place. It of course could be safer and hopefully we are trending in the right direction.
Aside: I used to live about 2miles from where the body of Milly Dowler was found. It was a long time before I went for a walk in any woodland after that.

Also, pissant jobs that don't pay enough to even rent a room with the bathroom down the hall.Maybe the madness is spreading, maybe it's a response to overpopulation, stress, insecurity etc. Could it in some cases be a defense mechanism, if people think your crazy they won't mess with you 😀
Another thing is the huge amount of sugar consumed by youngsters., it is said to be more addictive than cocaine!
The sugar content in a 2 litre bottle of Pepsi is said to be 30%, or 600 grams approximately.
To put that in context, the US FDA allows 15 grams as the RDA for an average adult.
The term 'sugar rush' comes to mind.
And they are used to shoot 'em video games, cannot relate to physical pain.
Or in increasingly fragmented families, they have lost their sense of good and bad, and kindness. The parents are both working, don't give enough time to their children.

Dietary sugar was a problem 50 years ago. And shoot em up games have been around more than a generation so anyone over 45 will have grown up with those around. Previous to that kids played 'cowboys and indians' with toy guns. So you appear to be projecting a problem that is half a century old onto the under 15s at least in the west?
Or for a data point. I am one of 4 children. All of us had a lot of fillings due to sugar in our diets. In 27 years none of my children have needed a filling now we are aware of the issues.

Very possibly higher than yours?IQ ???
Bill, I am in India.
It seems the sugary drink companies have shifted their sales attempts here, where there is less abhorrence for sugar (and tobacco, for that matter).
Some of the soft drink ads would make Superman feel inadequate, I generally switch channels at ad time...but still, it is flavored sugar water loaded with CO2 after all.
The other part is a general lack of feeling about hurting somebody physically.
And a person who is in a way blinkered by passively consuming other person's work becomes a blind follower, unable to think independently. The person becomes an animal led by their nose ring...
Another thing is that the quality of school education, particularly in North America, is terrible these days.
I knew a man who flunked 3rd and 8th grade in Jaipur (I lived there 1974-81), went to Louisiana in 1980 after clearing 10th grade, and claimed to have become a school topper. We said he was boasting, as usual, or the Americans were idiots.
Another aspect is change in dietary patterns, I have seen reports of additives to chicken feed (for growth and infection) causing young girls to achieve premature puberty, sometimes at age 8.
Think back to your childhood, what you ate was more varied, you got your meat from a butcher / freezer section, and made it yourself, and ate a lot less ready prepared food, most of which have preservatives added.
That goes for most people, as the ladies went to work, there was a tendency to buy ready made food, or order in from a restaurant etc.
Also, ask the people who are in your parents' generation about where they got their food and drink...no New Zealand or Paraguay beef, no Australian or California wine in the UK, nothing was transported long distance, unless it was expensive.
I believe that has something to do with behavioral changes...But it is my opinion after all, which I must not impose on you or anybody else.

with all due respect you have no idea what the 70s diet was in the UK. I do as I had to eat it and I have the fillings to prove it. If you have time google 'latchkey generation'. That's us poor bastards stuck between the boomers and the millenials.
A quote for you from Carry On Up the Khyber, Naresh...
"You've stood on my Indian dress"
"Sari"
"Don't mention it"
Oh dear... 🙂

They're mostly government compiled and pretty consistent. Deviations often rest on shifting definitions. School shooting I believe now include any incident of firearm discharge on/near a school property for example regardless of day part or participants.Stats are very often manipulated so how do you know which stats are accurate?
Plus I spent nearly 40 years supporting news organisations. I'll do my own research thanks, and recommend same.
This is turning into one of those cable threads were everyone talks about pretty much anything... except cables. I like that!
I'm sure I've seen a video of someone demonstrating gun safety in a SCHOOL, and the gun accidentally goes off...
"...and the gun accidently goes off..." The classification of unintended gun discharges changed awhile ago from "Accidental discharges", or "AD" to the more accurate "ND", negligent discharge. That incompetent actor literally got away from justice with a fatal shooting on a movie set...oddly reminiscent somewhat of a particular athlete who escaped justice some time ago now.I'm sure I've seen a video of someone demonstrating gun safety in a SCHOOL, and the gun accidentally goes off...
Infamy !
Infamy !
They've all got it in for me!
Myself having & had weapons of many many types, decades now & thousands of rounds...I never shot anything I didn't intend on shooting.

Why do you find the need for so many weapons? ( I guess you call yourself - A hunter ) ?Myself having & had weapons of many many types, decades now & thousands of rounds...I never shot anything I didn't intend on shooting.
He lives in the plains / coast of Argentina, so it is quite common to possess fire arms in that country.
I saw pictures of a gun shop in the USA, more than 500 different guns were on display...pistols, shotguns, rifles, ranging from conpact 0.22 to semi-automatic M-16 rifles, and a section for used guns, with fully automatic M-16 and AK-47 clones...guns registered before a certain date can be kept as assault rifles with full auto firing.
As an aside, the population to gun ratio in the USA exceeds 1, there are more guns than people there...
