Comparison of measured quantities is fine but comparison of perceived sonic qualities would most likely bring about irrational heated debate complete with wild accusation and vocabulary used by the uncultured, at least here. We have too many who need to be seen as superior authority but carry conflicting opinions.
+1
Also, we still have not figured out which measurements tell us something about perceived "sound quality". I am sure any cheap class-D amp board will perform better in terms of harmonic distortion than most of the many simple class-A amps around here. Still, most of us will happily choose the simple class-A amp if it comes to enjoying the music.
So far, my (very limited) recipe for a good sounding amplifier is along these lines:
- Use a big, stable power supply.
- Do not use too much global feedback (or, in other words: don't ignore the damping factor thing, but also don't overdo it).
- Don't worry too much about the THD figure. It's better to look at the spectrum of harmonic distortion, and you want to avoid the higher order stuff.
- A low-power amplifier paired with efficient speakers tends to sound better than a high-power amplifier with inefficient speakers.
Class D amps are not the best type of amp if your after a warm musical sounding amp . I see you have limitations that they be monoblocs and placed directly behind the amp . Could you indicate what you want to spend ? Most Class D amps by the way are universal voltage either by a selector switch or automatic. If I were you I'd give Wyred 4 Sound ago their Sx models are pretty good . P.M or email me deangale91@gmail.com if you want to expand .
I'd like to thank everybody who replied and helped. This was one of the hardest audio purchases I've had to decide on. I really really can't tell you how much I love those little digital amp boards. In my opinion oh, they make one of the most perfect Solutions in all of audio. A person can bypass the expensive speaker cables and put that money elsewhere. I'm using Kimber 4TC speaker cable. And my speaker cables are only six inches long each side. The little 5 in by 4 in board sit right behind the speaker terminals. I really like this and just wish more companies would either make high-end boards, or modify these boards. Hifime DIY has the right idea. I feel they should just expand on
Here is what monoblocks I chose. After finding out Ncore monoblock boards and power supplies cost $1000, I decided on a temporary solution, until I take more time to consider my options at a relaxed pace. I bought a pair of Sure AA-AB31511 boards to use with my two 48v 600 watt power supplies. It's rated for 500w x 1 @ 3 ohms . But at stupid distortion levels. At 1% distortion it outputs 350w @ 3 ohms. It should be around 300 watts at 4 ohms, and 150 watts at 8 ohms. Since this is DIY, should I change the 8 caps, and should I consider torrodial transformer or SMPS style power supplies instead?
I am either going a pair of Odyssey monoblocks in the future, or a pair of tube monoblocks, IF I can build one only 5 or 6" wide.

Okay ... there IS a money back guarantee. So I also just ordered a pair of ASP1000 monoblocks. That is CRAZY power, and I would have preferred the ASP500 instead, BUT the 1000s are on sale for $250 each, instead of the normal $377 each! That is a sale for sure ... well no, for Icepower ... lol
