How many times does one solder two wires together?
How do we crimp components within a pcb?
I do not see what this has to do with audio gear.
Who would crimp a soldered wire, anyway?
Good crimping tools are very expensive.
Nothing in that shows me why crimping a bare wire with a garden variety crimper and then soldering it could be "bad".
What is the point? Is there a point?

Thanks, Miller-8 for the interesting video. I learned a lot about solder joints. I also think rickmcinnis has some good points - mainly that it's mostly relevant to equipment subject to vibration and temperature changes. Still, I'm going to avoid soldering wires together. This has also inspired me to look into some decent crimping tools.
@rickmcinnis The crimp in my image was done with a $20 tool and the crimps cost pennies. They have a weak point in the center that can snapped if flexed too much. After soldering, I can't even bend it with my bare hands.
It is not always easy, but making a good mechanical connection before soldering is what I count on before soldering the joint. That is easy when you have the space to do it, but is tricky like a circus when you don't. Do NOT depend on the solder alone to make the electrical and mechanical contact alone. Use the combination of the two for the best joint. Besides you want the two wires to actually in the best mechanical contact, and not just the solder holding everything together. I see this fault again and again. Two straight solid core wires being held together only by the solder.

Also crimping tools are much cheaper nowadays, as was stated in the video also.
Try looking elsewhere.I guess you are right

Very good ones here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Astro-Pneu...mzn1.fos.d7e5a2de-8759-4da3-993c-d11b6e3d217f
Well I'm kinda glad I was blessed by growing up in the times of Sn60Pb40. 🙂 but these days finally I understand that crimp is the choice in many applications. I always get angry though when I grab shared crimping tool at work and it's set on minimum force so someone's hands didn't hurt.
Cant get the aliexpress link to work
Yeah, and why is it that those 65 year old Mcintosh, Fisher and Scott audio amplifies and receivers assembled with point to point soldered wiring and are still going strong?

Probaby because they arent subject to movement and vibration. Doesnt mean theyre as good as they were when new.Yeah, and why is it that those 65 year old Mcintosh, Fisher and Scott audio amplifies and receivers assembled with point to point soldered wiring and are still going strong? What would a crimped vacuum tube guitar amp look like?
I have the Wirefy ratcheting units in single and double crimp. I use them in the field and they even passed muster at the boat school where quality connections are highly emphasized.
