Qualified to comment?
Hands up how many people making comments here actually =have= a class A amplifier, huh?

Me.
BTW most preamps run class A into their normal loads.
No class A amp is class A into any load.
I have two class A amps by Erno Borbely (DIY).
One ZV9.
One Threshold 400A (sliding bias). Terrific bass. (After all these years.)
Had two ML-2s. Sold many years ago. (Fantastic pristine sound. Iron control. Maybe to little voltage swing (for ESL63) and to much heat....
Have some good B amps as well, but nothing beats A.

Re: Qualified to comment?
Hmm, that raises an issue. I and quite a number of the rest of the contributors to this thread have more class A amps in service than they have hands......so do we raise our feet as well....and the neighbours hands and feet ?
Magura 🙂

Hi-end.
The persuit of a percieved perfection at any-cost. IE there are no compromises in a given design direction due to the over-riding belief that the chosen direction will enable performance at a previously unknown level.
This could be visual (chord), or aesthetic (B&O), acoustic or electircal performance.
Papa chooses to use a deep class A design as he feels it provides a level of performance that is unattainable by choosing other sets of compromises.
You wouldnt exactly choose a Bentley, or a Lamborghini based on thier fuel consumption.

Okay
I'm in the middle of summer.
I do not turn on the air con. Instead,
I heat up room temp, powering Class A amp on.
And, I wear just minimum . . .
So what?

Been Class-A for a decade, mostly single-ended. Still use my Carver TFM-45 on dipole subwoofer, tho. Occasionally use Harmon Kardon Citation III or Macintosh MC-30. I use Triangle Acoustics Stratos speakers.

I've got a Class A BurBely headphone all-fet amp clone, named it the Anal Addiction, does that qualify ?

with that picture............
Naah.
Jacco, be a nice sailorman and mail me the schematic when you feel bored ;-))
Thanks a lot, Hannes
PS: as you know, on Ernos site are only schematics without component values and I'm not in the mood to play value guessing.

Strange, i just checked and the entire May02 AudioX article is there, including all the component values.
For a Kill-Bill AKG you need to raise the rails and bias of the 502 short block.
I still have my highschool days Pioneer ES-305, you schmuck.
Let me guess, fake drek ?

I dunno what..........what?

always............ ya're wellcome............ 😉
PRESS me
Run it balanced, with a proper heatsink the 30 watt Hitachi's can take a lot more.
I've used Fischer SK79 as i have much of it, doubled the bias and pleased. (waiting for the F4 headphone amp board)
Speaking about electricity bills, 14.4K KWh/yr ain't so bad =>
