So, this is the question:

How I can decide for sure, my lipsticked 2SK182ESs are original ones, or these are completely fakes?

I've noticed that some TOKIN's from PRAS have a circular area on the bottom . and the four I have from Watanabe-san are flat on the bottom.

15 years ago one of my assignments while working for brand N, was to investigate fake replacement and OEM parts from China In most cases, we found sub-standard quality, however, we also found a couple of suppliers in China whose fake parts were BETTER than OEM. Brand N still uses that supplier to this day.
What we were able to ID, was the Brand or Logo was always a "little" off regarding font and ink color(s).
The "TOKin" brand printed does look off.

Good question. I haven't seen a fake yet, and I don't know how someone would
make one.

I have a sample of a 2SK182es that is very shiny, has no serial # and a circle on
the bottom.

I just now hooked it up to my SIT test setup, and it's the real thing.

:snail:

I have 4 pcs of 2SK182ES that I have curved traced and verified that they are SITs. All 4 have a very faint circle on the bottom. Maybe these originally had a pronounced circle and were milled flat?

Measuring the thickness of the bottom flat part and comparing the circle and non-circle parts might reveal something.

To be clear, none of those shiny chrome SITS are from Pras or not based on what I've read. They came from random Aliexpress sellers but not from Pras. The folks who did receive these dubious looking devices can confirm but in all my dealings with her, she has been very clear when things are re-marked or refinished and when things are used.

Additionally, she will actually send me pictures of the actual devices before I've bought them as well. I don't understand why folks would go to Aliexpress when the members here are very clear on letting folks know that Watanabe and Pras are both trusted sources for these.

we also found a couple of suppliers in China whose fake parts were BETTER than OEM.
Parts that are as good as or better than oem are certainly not 'fake'. They may be pirated but definitely not fake. This is not an issue of semantics but rather simply one of identity. There are other reasons one would prefer not to support such manufacture, but performance is not one of them. Typically, fake parts justifiably have the connotation of sub standard attached to them, hence the usual red flag. I know there's no confusion here, I just thought it an interesting point. I guess there's more than one way to compete..if you can't beat em, join em.🙂

So why I ordered these suspicious things?

1. Watanabe san don't have 2SK182ES anymore, only one piece.
2. Yes, price was good.
3. Picture showed real ones, when I ordered.
4. At that time, we didn't discussed yet about those shiny pieces.
5. I'm trust in people. (It is one of my bad habit, I know.)

So this is my short story, how I stepped into the real Sh!T!
If these are Sh!T or real SIT, I can't decided, even now.
It is for sure, the four pieces shows very different behavior, according to that these have circles at the bottom, or not.
If anyone has some .cuv files from real ones, I would like to welcome these!

Thanks for all of the replies!

This is usual AliExpress fraud with fake or refurbished parts sold as original and new.

Main issue is that seller was advertising real NOS 2SK182 ES parts and was asking about the same money per part as trustworthy Watanabe San. What he shipped out are used parts, pulled from decommissioned equipment and made more presentable by fresh plating and new designation, whichever is in fashion or most likely to sell. We can’t be sure what were their original types (2SK182ES, THF-51S, THF-51, THF51N …).

You even can’t be sure that you’ll receive working parts. Last year, I received two DOA, completely burned out during electroplating procedure.
