While they last...

tnx for asking 🙂

few busy days..... frankly - don't know where my time went, but somehow I feel little tired ..... or to be more precise - not finding that my results are appropriate to lack of energy I'm feeling

or is it that I'm just more in the mood for reading the book than doing anything organized?

I hate real life, it is disturbing my fun life

anyway - today I finished assembly of R.3 pcbs in my own Sissy; had anyway to repair bloody bstrd, it blew one of four 35 Graetz metal thingies, so channel mains fuse pops out; must check that Graetz for holes, seen some gremlins around, carrying mini cordless drill :clown:

it was little late when I finished all soldering and bolting

(damn, was surprised measuring my custom case to see that is not that smaller than 4U/400 Modu case, so why it felt crumped and small ? maybe because of size of things I've put inside :rofl)

couldn't resist, so made alive one then other channel - setting procedure came easy as breeze

tomorrow hot tests - final setting of Iq and DC offset (hit just ballpark today - 1A7ish and 0Vish) and battery of THD related testing

new thread,yes, for clarity sake

kit - as already established as nice to have - 2 levels:

- first one - pcbs with all smds on

- second - above plus all parts for pcbs, sans xformers and SITs, of course

Excited to see R3 coming out! I have SITs, just the standards, so won’t be interested in the SissySIT P cards.

Hoping to build one SIT stereo amp to replace the Aleph J cards in a Deluxe 5u case, in addition to a Sony JVet group 3 build this year.

Of interest, what voltage PSU will the SissySIT be using?

So that’s why you need to keep yourself at an appropriate distance from the Aliexpress:

There is the whole dispute at this moment:

Basszák meg az anyukájukat!

I would reply:
„The seller has provided the authorization file from the brand owner / purchase invoice to prove the item was original.” - Invalid statement and direct support of FRAUD.

Present this „proof“ or purchase invoice, please. If invoice is not from „brand owner“ and that is „Tokin corporation“ of Japan, it is not a proof of authentic product. Invoice from another reseller of counterfeit goods is not a valid proof of authentic product.

I feel really pissed of by this “brand owner” nonsense and this generic response from AliExpress staff.

SissySIT P is going to be active stage instead of xformer gain stage

PSU -same as previous iterations, so regular FW format

I received my matched pair of THF-51S ( with curve tracer data ).
Many thanks, Mr. Watanabe.
The match is also good with the Peak DCA75

Recommended Tools and equipment list - from scratch

Being stuck at home for over a year now, I have finally lost my mind after being late to the Sony V-Fet lottery.
So I read this thread and blindly took the advice of Mr Pass, and purchased the following:

- Precisely Matched Quad (4 pcs) of THF-51S (with curve tracer data)
- Matched Pair (2 pcs) of 2SK182ES (with curve tracer data)

I have always read this forum, and dreamed of being able to even talk about building an amplifier. I have an issue in that I am addicted to trying to achieve the 'best possible', and now that I have i started this journey, I must confess I don't have any tools. 😱

Would anyone be able to help me create a shopping list of tools need to complete this 1st project, please.
So far I would like to add:
- Peak DCA75 Atlas Pro, for semiconductor analysis and curve tracing.
- I noticed Peak also have other tools like ESR70 Resistance Meter, LCR45 Impedance Meter (Are these useful?)

With all the experience i have seen on this forum, which tools would you buy again? and recommend to someone who wishes to setup a build and test bench, and slowly learn to use these tools while following the guidance here.

I would be grateful if I could ask for your assistance and advice.
At the moment I have a table with nothing more the than the 4 THF-51S, and 2 2SK182ES.
Now that I have committed, I would like to jump in a little deeper, and hopefully learn to build something I can be proud of. 🙂

thanks, Carlos

decent solder station, few decent DMMs, basic small tools (pliers, cutters, screwdrivers), twizzers, solder-sucker

for start more than enough

before actually buying curve tracers of any sort, better to invest time and energy in learning wtf! all these curves are

so, learning and having fun goes before shiny gadgets

@Zen Mod @pinholer - Thank you for your replies.

I have the very basic tools, soldering iron, pliers, cutters etc.. from my dad (passed away, telecommunications engineer), but I don't have shiny equipment.

I have kind of committed myself to doing this, and have promised myself that I want to do everything properly, and have decided to ask questions, even if it it shows me to being trigger happy on buying equipment.

I don't have anyone else to ask, so I hoped I might get a list of equipment that would be 'ideal' for these types of projects, just jump in feet first.

Was hoping that I might build a list of possible equipment, so that I can plan ahead, by know what you experienced guys have found valuable along each of your journeys.

Believe it or not, I am having fun just trying to put together a tools & measuring equipment list.

I suggest you consider starting with the ACA kit in the store. Then you will feel more confident building one of the more complicated projects using valuable and soon to be irreplaceable VFETs.

Have fun on your journey! 🙂

@WBS - thanks for your reply, and advice 🙂
ACA are sold out until Q3 of this year.

I bought 6 V-Fets just in case, something goes wrong.

I kind of have a room full of amplifiers that i settled on, but recently have found that for me, it is just best to aim for exactly what would make me happy.
I kind of get excited about the small details, which mounting screws to use, crimping tools, etc.. It is sort of the way i am, which is why i felt so comfortable reading the posts here with so many people obsessed with all the small details also.
