Hello everyone, it’s my first message here.
I’m french so I might sometimes miss out on some words, just preventing everyone 😬
Here’s my « problem »:
I got two RCF 712A MK4 and I’m looking for the most powerful sub to suit them.
As I know a lot of brands lie about the spl max of the subs, I wanted to know from your experience which of the following sub is the most powerful:
-DXS15 MKII
-RCF 8002 AS
-RCF 905 AS-II
If someone could make a rank for me, that would be fantastic!
By the way, when I mean the loudest, I mean the one which can go to the highest volume, without starting to get the limiter/peak button on.
And if you have ideas of a more powerful sub than these ones, for less than 1300€, I would love to hear about it!
Thanks for your help!

Found this on Thomann. Very good value.
the box pro TP218/1600 A – Thomann France
there's no data as to SPL rating.
Thanks for your answers!
Yes Ernie, I also saw noticed this sub but I would prefer getting a RCF or a Yamaha one as I know they don’t lie about their SPLmax.
Last time, I bought a « Elokance » sub, the features looked awesome but it was actually a horrible sub, couldn’t follow my RCF when the volume was turned up...
Is there really a big difference between a 18 an a 15 sub ? I mean outdoors.
Because the DXS15 has a 135splmax tho, which is huge..
So I’m hesitating a lot

Almost all specs are a lie....even from big names. Only third party testing comparisons show the truth.
There is quite a bit of difference between a 15" and 18" of similar class.
That 2x18 is from Thomann's house brand. The price isn't directly comparable to RCF and other names.
It will take a top of the line 18" to come close to a cheaper 2x18. That said, if you want a name brand, go for the largest subs you can afford.

Allen organ. Theirs is 18".
Since they don't sell components, try the one from Petersen electro musical products. It is only 15", but great enclosure.

it all comes down to response, while eighteen's can generally go deeper by virtue of size not all drivers will deliver on that and depending on system design and configuration driver choice, box type, and how they are placed or arrayed all come to bear on performance.
but if we are talking single sub to pair with the tops to extend low frequency performance i would still look at a single 18 powered sub but we would need to get a better idea of venue size and expected crowd size,no?
also is it live or Memorex? (sorry tainted by old adverts, i mean live or DJ app?)

SPL Max: 136 dB
thanks for the info, seems all contenders are at least by published specs in the same ballpark,
Hi and thanks for the answers!
I got it, a 18 sub will go deeper than the 15, that would be great for me but as I would like to buy two subs, I thought it would be best for me to buy two 15.
That’s why I wanted to know if the RCF 8003 was actually more powerful than the DXS15MKII ? The dxs15mkii delivering 135spl max (one more than the RCF)..
It would be for like 120-150 people, outdoor, with a big wall behind the sound system, two walls on the sides but no wall further in front.
It is for like a 650m2 surface.
By the way, I will probably buy two more RCF ART712A next month so I’ll have:
-4X RCF 712A
-2 DXS15MKII or RCF8003 or RCF 905ASII or RCF8002 (whatever you think is best)
The kind of music I play is electro/techno (sam paganini- another chance, sultan&shepard-bloom and kryder-aphrodite are some of the sounds I play).
I want it to be enough powerful, like in an outdoor club, volume really high etc.
I never do play it that high for more than an hour tho.
Thanks a lot!

OK reality check time.
Your system with 2 subs and 2 tops would be quite loud in a typical 100-150 person capacity indoor venue, but outdoors with no walls to contain the sound you need FOUR TIMES as much gear to get the same SPL in the same area.
The RCF 8002 will be the loudest, RFC is pretty honest with their specs while Yamaha exaggerates a bit more... none of these boxes will produce the advertised max SPL.

I see...
Well, by the end of September I’ll have 4 tops and 2 subs, and will try to add two more subs after that.
Which will make four 15 subs (DXS15 MKII or other) and four RCF712A.
I hear what you say but honestly at the moment, with only two RCF712A without subs, I definitely hear the sound almost high enough in all the area.
I just need way way more bass, that’s where I get your point...
Do you have an advice for the sub I should buy for this ?
RCF 8003, DXS15MKII, RCF 905AS-II, TP218/1600A or other...
Thanks!

As big as you're comfortable with! Size matters for bass.
Two 2x18 would be my minimum for that kind of music and setting. Mine are similar to the TP218/1600A. It's definitely good but at the limit for my taste. Four 2x18's will cover nearly all your needs.
One TP218/1600A will be louder than one 8003 and cost 450 less...start with two if you can afford it.

With 1400 W Tops, You're looking for something in the 3000W range for the sub.
Head over to a rock concert and check what they have under the stage.
something like this with 2*2000W drivers.

The line array looks great but I don’t think I’ll have enough budget for that...
And I’m more looking into active speakers rather than line arrays, even if it might be way more powerful.
Thanks ernie for your help, a 2X18 would definitely be nice to start with!
But I’m just unsure about the specs from the brand: 2X18, 136spl max, 2200W RMS for only 900€..
While a single 15 from yamaha with less db and watts costs the same price...
If I read the specs, of course the TP218 looks way more powerful but I dont know if I can trust that

This is the wrong way to go.
Unless you're aiming for 180-degree coverage from each speaker stack and splay your cabinets wide, you're going to end up with a comb-filtery mess.
If you need more output in the mid-high range, upgrade your main speakers.
Chris
would it still be a comb filtery mess if one stacks the two vertically with the top one inverted so their horn to horn (think DAppolito)??
I see... Well then maybe keep the two RCF712A and go for 2 or 4 very strong subs.
Just one thing, I love the bass sound provided by the RCF 8003ASII here:
RCF NXL 24a & SUB RCF 8003 as|| BSS SOUND MEDAN 2019 - YouTube
I don’t how I could illustrate that sound (punchy? deep? low?) but I just love the subs work here.
Can a Yamaha DXS15MKII provide that ? I saw some videos and it sounds like they have more vibration and resonance then the sound on the video above. But definitely not as good as this one, it doesnt come out like that.
I have the opportunity to get a RCF8002, rather than a DXS15MKII, would it be better to get to that sound ?
Anyways, if you have an idea of subs that can make this kind of sound for less than 1300€/piece, I’m here for it.
Thanks a lot
