What ribbon tweeter would you recommend me for a 2-way loudspeaker project?
The main data:
- Crossover point at 2.5KHz.
- Made (or sold) in Europe.
- Transparent sound, superior to non-ribbon tweeters at the same price.
- Price up to 200Eur per unit.
Thanks and regards

I'll second the LCY recomendation..possibly the best tweeter currently available within its bandwidth.
If the xo- point at 2,5 kHz isn't a must, why not use a Visaton MHT 12?

Newly avaiable with minor modifications and as selected pair (selection costs 25 EUR extra per pair)...
IMHO

Every time i turn around there are more ribbons & psuedo-ribbons... great for someone averse to domes.

Thanks for the tips!
The Visaton seems to be an interesting option, if crossed at 3KHz.
I have noticed they have drivers of all kind.
What do you think about the Visaton woofers with aluminium cones?

Well, I'm using the "AL 170" in my current system. They need a little correction to handle their membrane resonances, but they are worth the money...
I'm planning to use the "AL 130 M" (out of stock) in a classic 3- way- System when the time is ready for it...
But I heard the "AL 130" in a comparision to the "TI 100 M", and there wasn't much difference between them...
But like all aluminium cones:
If you can handle the resonances, they are really good.

Oooops, my fault...
I heard the "AL 130" in a test together with the "TI 100" (not the "M"- model)...
And maybe one of my next speakers will contain the "AL 200" too...
****, why am I not allowed to edit my posts at any time?

Benny,
You can only edit your posts for about 20 minutes after original posting.
Also, please do not try and circumvent the auto censor. We do not use language like that at diyaudio and from this point on, neither do you.

The lcy one looks interesting , round but ribbon in the middle in a rectangular shape. But I couldn't get to more detailed data.
The Icy has the interesting advantage of the low xo-point for 2-way designs.
Is it sold in Europe?
For using the Visaton, in my 2-way project, I will have to find another woofer, that likes to be crossed at 3KHz...

Re: any Aussies try this one?
Hi Sony,
What size bass driver were you originally looking at? I'm assuming it was a fairly small, fast driver.
The LCY unit looks like a nice product, but in all honesty, in a previous life I've shyed away from the cup-shaped 'horn like' HF drivers like that. I have found that dispersion suffers somewhat compared to other designs. I'm sure others here will chime in on this one.
If it were me dropping that much $$ on a set, I'd make sure to check ALL avenues before making a decision...
FWIW,
Mark

Mark, I could use the ribbon tweeter in any of these two projects I have running:
- 2 way with 5" aluminium woofer.
xo-point at 2.5KHz. 4th order active.
- 3.5 way with soft dome 2.5" midrange and two 8" woofers.
xo-points: 4KHz; 1KHz, 200Hz. 2nd order passive.
When you mention 'other designs' are you considering conventional aluminium tweeters?
I have two conventional tweeters that use a short exponential horn, and have good dispersion.
Should I expect a loss in dispersion with a ribbon tweeter?

Glad to hear you have a few project options to drop these units into. I've found it a bit tricky to match drivers to ribbons in the past - especially well crafted ribbons.
Not other designs, just other ribbons; obviously you are limited to what is available as compared to something like domes.
When executed properly, ribbons are awesome - fast, detailed and very accurate. But as you know there are always tradeoffs when designing such products. When I see a design shaped like a cup, the old world thinking in me sees a potential tradeoff in dispersion at higher frequencies for a slight boost in efficiency the horn-like shape provides without affecting the overall cost of the driver.
But as I say, its old world thinking and since I do not have a pair to test, I can't back this statement up.
Best of luck in your projects and I'm sure that whatever unit you chose, it will be a good one! 🙂

I'm not an Aussie, but I think they sound very good.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
How about that LCY130 with a SS 18W/4531G00? Or should I just stick to like Hiquphon OWII? I think I'll be going SS if the HDS Exclusive can't cover bass very well... 830883s FR graph seems to indicate as such.

I have heard a pair of ribbon tweeters, didn't get the chance to listen to them for long or on my own taste of music.. But i did email afriend that is not using a pair of the CSS G2si ribbon to test them and see how i like there sound..
