The first time
I'm somewhat of a flower power child, the indoctrination with military mind techniques started when I was about six years old.
Have two sisters of nearly a decade higher age to blame for that, each weekend they organised parties in a 30' x 60' building in the garden next to our house, originally intended as extra space for my dad's company.
And facing my bedroom window, while I was in bed, those fckng hippie songs played.
Over and over again, every weekend, for years, G-D-I.
Even nowadays, I only need to think of an oldy tune, to smell burning weed and joints.
Death to all Hippie Commie B's !
May you choke in your tofu sandwich.
I can understand that as when I was eight I was involved to listen "Be carefful with that axe Eugene" by Pink Flyod !

Saw them twice. Second time spent most of the gig in a back-stage bar. [I used to get free tickets to a lot of gigs back then; also studio visits.]
When Jacco was little and being abused by his sisters, I was still in Ireland! Over there - out in the sticks - the 60s seemed to pass us by.
But we had something worse still......the Irish show showband and marquee dances.
I lived 2 miles from a site and the sheer unadulterated row - for two solid weeks - twice a year - was so intolerable that I moved to England!
Now - once a year - we suffer a weekend of Scottish bagpipe music incl. "massed" bands ... at less than 1 mile from my home.
I don't know where to move to next.

Guns shop !
I can also understand that as here we have sometimes Fest Noze from people called the "bretons" (from our Bretagne), if the scotish can play bagpipe, I swear the bretons stopped the Darwin evolution of music and even worst with dance ! If a full moon party can be funny, a Fest Noze isn't (but if you are breton into local liquid LSD they call "chuchen" !

The best thing I got for Christmas was the expression on my wife's face when I took her up one of our local mountains so she could have a white Christmas.
Priceless.
Priceless.
Lucky you, here there is so few snow this winter than it costs you an arm to see it... not easy to smile after with only one arm ! If we continiue that way I surmise Santas will have strings !
Damned.... Pure blue sky today ! Copacabana in Paris ! Dear Santa, I vote for swapping the reindeers by camels !

Blokes and strings is very out of the ordinary on Curaçao, but plenty of Santas in Speedos or Bermuda swim shorts.
(it's the Xmas trees/decorations, already ads/billboards on the streets in the end of october, which are/remain so odd)
These are basically socks for life. I tear through wool socks from hiking and skiing so we'll see if they live up to their guarantee -
Costco has some great merino wool socks, made by Smartwool. In Costco's store unbranded they're four for $12.
On their web site the same socks are branded and priced at two for $25. That's a big price difference.

I'm perplexed by the praise of analog sound from a 8-track player. True, analog media and the quality of the music from those sources for the most do sound so much better than highly compressed digital files of the same recordings but in reality the recordings of music on 8 track tapes were also highly compressed to the point where I would say the output is probably close to that of an MP3 file. It seems that many youngsters who were not around when 8 tracks first hit the market may be unaware of how bad the sound quality really is and perhaps not even capable of discerning what is and is not good quality sound.
The other post about tube vs. SS sound and the responses are amazing. I wasn't sure if the comments were meant to be sarcastic or if they simple had no clue.
While in college I remember there being a music appreciation class to educate us on the different types of music so those of us that we're only aware of rock and roll and whatever was playing in our favorite radio stations.
Perhaps there should be a class to educate people on the different formats for music recordings along with the various types of components these sources are played on then what constitutes good quality sound vs. crap?

I agree. I sold few vinyls which I had purchased, money will be given to charity who gives education poor kids. Yes giving feels good.Better to give than receive.
