Hehe indeedBi-amp and all this driver efficiency nonsense becomes mute. 😉

but simplicity has its charms! First order series xo makes drivers integration a non issue
How do you like the fe168ez?It is what is spit out by WooferTester2 so it is a LF number. Factory suggests 94.5, but from the graph 91-92 at 1KHz.

im afraid i cannot find many wideband that fit my needs…
alpair 10p is too inneficient for my ampsdave
sadly, the smaller fe108ez is not efficient enough as well.
the 108ez is that much better then the 168ez? how exactly?
i guess i could make the 108ez work. id use the PS100 b&c woofer with it...

It has much more sensuous midrange without the spikey bits up top. A10p even bettter and abot the same sensitivity

Well, the only wideband i still have and enjoy is the small fe127en. The alpair12p, coral beta 8, fe206 all sounded less refinedIt has much more sensuous midrange without the spikey bits up top. A10p even bettter and abot the same sensitivity

is that a thing with small wideband? If you want true neutral wideband you need to go for small 4” wideband?
if so, money is no object. Is there a 4” from lowther or supravox that would be even better then the 10p or 108ez?
the alpair10p drop too much around 600hz, would not work for my system.
edit: actually the fe108ez is even worst here droping almost to 85db at 1khz…
i dont even think i can find a 15” woofer that inneficient

What's the best 4-8" wideband you heard reproducing the midrange/treble?
W.E. 755A field coil with later versions 'best of the rest' so far, but haven't auditioned any newer than the '90s and none of the higher end offerings........ for near enough full range (20 -20 kHz) the late lamented Babb Lorelei.
edit: Scaling the 755's diaphragm, the mids' Sd = 164.28 cm^2, so whatever frame size comes closest without going (much) over.

the 755a will be my pesonal speaker eventually i think
Understood, just responding to the thread's title and to maybe use as a frame of reference plus for every poster there's God knows how many lurkers, future (re)searchers there will be. 😉
The FE127 needs a lot of work to come even close to an A12p. As a mid-tweet, they would be ok with Enable, phase plug, and a notch filter at 7kHz. I had a pair for a while, in miniOnken style boxes. They were eventually replaced with FX120's, which I currently have on my desktop.Well, the only wideband i still have and enjoy is the small fe127en. The alpair12p, sounded less refined

maybe its been too long, must have been over 8 years that i had the alpair 12p.The FE127 needs a lot of work to come even close to an A12p. yeah, the fe127en is definitely not good enough for a main system
oh, and i think the worst ever speaker ive ever had was the FE206 in frugal horn cabs
edit: i do remember the Alapair 12p being much better then the coral beta 8 i directly compared to for a few weeks
yeah, their QC makes me scared
i think ill go with Lowther PM6A silver coil. xo'd around 200hz to either 15" or 18" woofer. not quite sure i understand the real efficiency of the silver driver.

I hope that I am giving some info that you might be able to use. I built a set of back loaded horn cabinets (actually two different sizes, first set were smaller). So, I have tried a few different drivers out there, but since the Alpair 10P and 12P have both been mentioned, I will add that I used the 10P in first set of cabinets and the 12P in larger cabinets. Although I liked both in the mids and even the treble, I moved on to a Scan Speak 7" mid-woofer, meaning that I had to make the speaker system a two way. Bass is there in the 10 and 12P, but I missed the impact that I now have in the upper bass on down.
It has been a journey over a couple of years, and though I am happy with the end results, it took a lot of time to get what I really like.
Good luck in your journey and trust your ears.
