Hi lineup,
Audio is something I fix a lot of. I like to listen to mine when not working. 😀

the means and the purpose of things, like amplifiers
.
My signature is a bit of a provocation
a reminder
to all of us into this diyaudio thing:
It is so easy we get so involved with thinking about
and discussing too much
the means = our audio tools
that we forget about
the purpose = our good music
It is very much like those computer freaks:
they can go on discussing and bragging about the hardware and software of their PCs
.. that they seams to miss the whole point totally:
What is the purpose of having such an extreme hardware?
A good or perfect tool is no good, if not used for something constructive.
I cook food because I have to eat and so survive.
I dont go into the kitchen and make some perfect food
just to throw it away or put it onto public exhibition.
We people have not only body needs, but also needs that are in our minds.
One such need is to make rythms and sounds
and listen to and/or move body along to those sounds.
It is human need of most any culture there is or have ever been on earth.
Of course audio, to me, is more than those sounds I can hear and listen to.
Anybody reading these forums can have no doubt about this.
Yet, The danger I am facing is ... too much amplifier talk and
Too Little Music in my Life.
To give me some pleasure, relaxation and enjoyment.
Things that can make my life a little bit more bright and so more worth living.

those speakers have a cabinet that have better shape than any square box can offer
there has been some classical loudspeaker project called SonoTube .. or something like this,
that used some kind of cardboard tubes of suitable dimension
as a round shaped box
I am sure others knowing more of speakers can fill in for my limited remembering.

.. where I posted a picture of first snow this winter
Now, my friends in southern africa,
has come even more of that white thing 🙂
One mythological figure we use up here, as The God Of Snow
is called King Bore
When winter comes, we can express this:
King Bore has arrived also this year
And certainly he has .. at least outside Lineup Audio Lab
lineup 🙂 inside warmed by his heater also called Personal Computer ( 150-300 Watt dissipated )

Hi Lineup,
I must say that it does look quite pretty there by you!! The last time we had snow was October '83!!! It still snows in the mountains in our Natal region, but not in Johannesburg where I stay. I THINK it might snow there by Nordic in the Cape Region as well in winter, not too sure...
I actually think snow looks prettier than it is. Imagine having to shovel your car out of the snow every morning
Anyway, it was 33 deg C today. This is going to be a bad summer!!!! : hot :
Cheers
Gert

yes it looks pretty
And we do not only have to be
DREAMING of A White Christmas
where I live
because we HAVE a white christmas every year
Same goes for our quite many members living in Canada
and our Russian friends
as well as those living among and close to the high mountains in Switzerland, Austria and northern Italy
snow is to find almost in every region of our planet
on the highlands and on the mountain tops
anyone thinks Africa is only warmth, desert and burning sun everywhere
is wrong
think of postcards of beautiful Kilimanjaro ( Kenya I think ) .. with it's white top
lineup 😎 = cool ..... as ice outside

Hi lineup, the speakers produce very good LF indeed. Cabinet resonance is very minimal for a plastic construction...😎
Very nice "sitting by the fireplace" feel to the picture, we used to have more white christmasses, nowadays with the hotter climate here it hardly freezes in the winter here...🙁

Yeah, I imagine they are very good loudspeakers of yours, v-bro!
Here is another picture of
what is commonly called Sonotube speakers

can't find the image on google nor do I have a scanner, but I tried to copy the image (a picture from the black covered B&W nautilus book I have) by drawing it...
Pardon me foor my poor drawing skills...
The idea is that waves of the rear radiated "anti-sound" are eliminated succesfully, where the conventional design shows rather turbulent waves that influencce the "real-time" sound...
In this book are very nice pictures of the messiest workbenches you can imagine...
I will scan it at work if I can relocate the book in my mess....

Heh, and you can keep lots of beer in that fridge!!!!!!!!!
On my desk, I have now completed the circuit boards for my LM4780 reference circuit amp. The transformer and heatsink is from a broken amp I bought for 5 dollars.. its case is allready being used for my valve buffer.
Got a big piece of offcut wood at the hardware shop today, looks like meranti, its the middle pannel for a lower door should be large enough to make a 19" rack sized box.. hold on for more of my crappy pics later...
The big yellow caps and small silver paper and foil caps are from eastern european/russian origin all bougt on ebay... nothing fancy going into it otherwise... wil leave some space for a pic based attenuator in the case.
