For sure, outlets differ concerning noise. For our audiophile music playback setup, we thankfully got a dedicated line installed by the owner for free (he's an Electrician by trade), so that appliances like the fridge, dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer can't interfere.
My current AC Mains near Lab A has orange outlets but not on the dedicated line, so technically those are for medical use, but they were already here when I moved in, so they could just be cheap orange outlets.

Medical grade outlets are not "cheap", since they must be reliable.
A place where they are used must have had a sick person there relying on equipment to survive.

Hospital grade receptacle is ~10$USD. That's pretty damned cheap IMHO.

Any outlet in my house that might have audio gear or a PC connected gets hospital grade, in the end that's probably 3/4 of the outlets in my house. Specifically they are Leviton 8300-W (20a) and Leviton 8200-W (15a). In my defense I'm not nuts, it's an old 50's house and all of the outlets when I bought it barely held a cable in so they needed replacement. As kodabmx said, about $10 USD a pop. The extra clamping force is really worth it. Hospital grade IEC cables are nice too, slightly larger body, solid pins, and withstand greater pull force, personally I like to make my own cables though.
Every outlet I put in this place (except the one behind the refrigerator) is entry level Leviton. Backstabbed...
3$CAD a piece. https://www.homedepot.ca/product/leviton-decora-tamper-resistant-receptacle-15a-in-black/1000742279
Working perfectly for 10 years and counting.

If folks will let me indulge in OT discussions about a kitchen “bench” tonight…
We have the small Gourmia and the large (looks like a giant toaster oven) Gourmia with double French doors. I like the small one better though as it cooks faster and easier to clean.
Grilled Chilean sea bass with salt paprika and EVOO is awesome in an air fryer.
But you have to try lemon grass, brown sugar, and salt and red flake pepper dry rubbed marinated spare ribs cooked 30min in an Instapot pressure cooker, then finished off for 10min in an air fryer. Fall off the bones tender and the flavor is insane.
But… the Instapot raison d’etre is Moroccan Lamb Tangine:
OMG, the taste is incredible… organic Australian lamb browned in butter and EVOO first marinated overnight in dry rub of cinnamon, cumin, turmeric, cloves, bay leaf, black pepper, sea salt, pinch of saffron. Then 35min on pressure cook with 2 cups of beef or chicken vegetable broth (carrots and celery based) with lots of dried apricots, dates, and carrots. Served garnished with cilantro and lemon.

Re-read more carefully what I wrote.Medical grade outlets are not "cheap", since they must be reliable.

And it's quite fitting that we're being fed by convection while I've been battling some really tenacious cold convection currents indoors since December!Air Fryer = Small Convection Oven 😆
Yesterday's work - adding additional plastic sheathing with fibre insulation and a bubble wrap + Aluminium reflective combo - seems to have worked wonders. The offending surface is a brick wall outside, connecting right to the inside...
At the front door and windows, there's not even double insulation. The horror, the horror!
My supplies of bubble wrap and duct-tape came in really handy 😀
The orange outlets are usually used to indicate an isolated ground.
The ONLY differences between hospital and consumer grades are how many times they are rated for insertion, and that the screws have a plate to clamp the wire instead of just a screw.

I made a video tonight on how to connect and setup the RTR TPA3255 amp.
I just checked from the H.D. link you provided. What I have looks like an 'Industrial / Commercial Grade' outlet, with a black triangle mark on the front plate. The orange outlets are usually used to indicate an isolated ground.

I think grip strength might also be a difference between the normal ones and Hospital grade. This increases contact surface area.
Incidentally, where I now live was a couple of commercial stores before it was turned into a residential space.
XRK when you get done designing the best audio gear you can write a cookbook.
On the bench was a rebuild of a new soft start with remote on/off and thermal shutdown. I got new solder paste. The last one used old solder paste and I think I had a bad joint somewhere and logic was not working. It’s working fine now. Installed in amp and cleaned up wiring. Letting amp burn in.
Beautiful food!!!!
Stick with your day job and your great audio projects, leave the cooking to those that like to suffer until at least they become the head chef where they can direct everyone else to do the work. I have met many chefs and could of been one, most are done by the time they are 40.
Really is beautiful food, thanks for sharing the pics!

Trust me, I don’t ever plan to take up cooking food as a pro! This is purely because of air fryer duties for dinner with the family.
I brought the A40 upstairs to test it out in bedroom with a set of gloss blonde birch Vangiards.
They sound really great together. A perfect combo.

Nice X!
Any chance you’ll sell the VU meter + pcb circuitry to support it on your Etsy?
Best,
Anand.

Hi Anand,
Glad you like the VU meters. There is no extra circuitry with these - they are purely passive (self powered by the signal connection) and a separate circuit for the LED. PM coming your way.

On the dresser tonight is the A40 amp and Vanguard speakers. Bringing it upstairs gives me a good chance to test sound quality and functionality, user interface etc. This combo is sounding very nice.
I’m thinking of starting a new thread called “What’s on Rotation Tonight”. As diyers we all have multiple amps and speakers and often swap out our gear depending on mood or equipment availability, or maybe it’s a new amp.
