What's going on with the plague of narcissism?

Narcissism, Borderline, Antisocial, Histrionic Personality Disorders are classified as "Cluster B" by psychologists.
Actually not anymore. DSM V removed that classification in an effort to reduce stigma. But those disorders are unique in that the person suffering from the disorder isn't the one doing the suffering, i.e., the disorders are egosyntonic. It's everyone around them who suffers. That makes these disorders hard to treat.

According to one study, mothers over 40 have 77% higher risk of autistic children than mothers under 25. Whilst there are some similarities between autism and narcissisum, there are also differences; but there is still a possibility of a link.

I'm autistic (high functioning, Asperger's according to DSM IV), as were my father and brother. I see absolutely no link between the behaviour of my father and brother (I leave myself out because it is always hard to judge your own behaviour) and what was written in post #22, https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...-the-plague-of-narcissism.406782/post-7540982 They were just very nice people, albeit unusually honest and a bit obsessive.

It's pretty old news that narcissism is on the rise: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5783345

Empathy is declining too.

It is an all about me world. My opinion, my thoughts, my feelings; others opinions, thoughts and feelings are probably just stupid.
Many people review everything they see, do, eat or encounter; their opinion is so important it must be shared about everything.
News stories are almost always followed by hundreds if not thousands of comments, many from people that read nothing more than the headline. Most of the comments are angry, dismissive or downright offensive. We see it on the roads where adults regularly freak out at other drivers for perceived moments of disrespect. I see it on forums where "I don't understand why this is popular" has become "Why would anyone..."
Heck, some part of me thinks people I've never met and will likely never meet are interested in my thoughts on this subject; it is really a weird world.

This is again not new. Back when drinking and driving was less frowned upon there would always be someone with a strong opinion on everything who was desperate to share it. They are online now. We opened Pandora's box and then a few clever people explained how dopamine works to a few greedy people. The comments trolls you talk about are slaves to their brain chemistry, getting a chemical reward every time they add an ill thought and pointless comment. Just as I am probably doing here 😛

And if you search the internet there is plenty of discussion on how to take back your brain...

Could the prevalence of electronic devices in current culture have anything to do with it? Perhaps newer people have skipped over the part of relating to another actual fellow, versus some image on a screen. And, when the AGI / ASI takes off, actual human fellows will be regarded in an even lesser way. Everyone will be seen as a POS, compared to what you can get on line for free.
Yes, cell phone addiction has become a thing according to reddit r/dumbphones. Moreover, the ability to take selfies everywhere causes a person to reduce their awareness. They are abstracting experience instead of living it.
