Not that much 😉

In any case, I do not have "shop windows", I work and sell out of an old 550 square meter 19 room 110 year old house, half dedicated to manufacturing, half for Family use:
I moved here specifically to be able to make lots of noise at any time of day and night, not annoy neighbours with contact cement or paint thinner fumes, etc.
Only problem is that originally I could park trucks or pickups at the door bringing full sheets of MDF or Aluminum, full rolls of Tolex, 18-24 liter cans of various glues or paint, etc. , and customers could park, pick their amps/cabinets and go straight to play somewhere, but lately it became a Tourist trap and the street was closed to car traffic.
Oh well.

Look at the bright side you do not have to travel to work place. I do get it that bringing in supplies the qty mentioned becomes a messNot that much 😉

I always worked/lived in the same place, HATE "commuting".
Absolute waste of time, typically 2 "work hours" nobody pays for.
Even worse, 2 hours stolen from your leisure or typically "living" time, ugh!!!
If it's listed here, I'd go for it:LM3886 from AliExpress? Thumbs up or thumbs down?
Thanks

No, I don't see AliExpress listed there ...
there are lots of places to get genuine articles that's not listed in official lists 🙂If it's listed here, I'd go for it:

(I'm guessing tomchr is not listed there as well)
Tom/neurochrome was not actually selling components, but now he is offering some key components for his customers to be able to finish their amplifiers . And I’ve heard that the modulus86 will be offered to be purchased as a kit/unsoldered components included, well, that’s a great idea!

The point I'm making is that just because the seller is not in the list then it does NOT necessarily mean the items are fakes. 🙂Tom/neurochrome was not actually selling components, but now he is offering some key components for his customers to be able to finish their amplifiers . "Semiconductor products purchased outside of TI’s authorized distribution network, including through brokers, independent distributors, or online marketplaces (sometimes referred to as the “gray market”), may be counterfeit, modified, beyond TI’s recommended shelf life, or improperly stored or handled. Accordingly, TI does not provide warranty coverage or customer support for semiconductor products purchased outside of TI’s authorized distribution network."
The point is if you buy from places other than the ones listed as "TI authorized semiconductor distributors" then the semiconductors "may be counterfeit".

Yep. If you buy from sources other than those in the official distribution channels, you run some extra risk of getting counterfeit components. Who do you trust more? Me or JoeSmuck2000 on eBay/AliBaba/whatever?
Also note that I wont't sell the LM3886 unless you buy one of my Modulus-86 or LM3886DR boards. Basically I sell what I have so I can keep my business and only source of income going. The LM3886es I have came from Digikey and Mouser.

Tom has mentioned people buying up all that are available, and scalping them, $300 for a $6 part.
So, your choice, are you willing to pay that much?
Far Eastern sellers...you are taking a big chance.

I'm curious what your expectations are. Should TI stop all development of new parts until the supply chain issues have been resolved? Should designers stop using the LM317 because of the long lead times? Seriously!? What do you expect?
Have a look at the grey market prices for the TI parts. Jelly bean parts like the LM317, ULN2003, LM3886, etc. now costs tens to hundreds of dollars each. Do you really think that TI doesn't know this and see the demand for their parts? If they had inventory they'd sell out immediately. Clearly they're working as fast as they can on producing the parts so they can make money. That happens to be a bit of a challenge when they can't get starting materials, lead frames, neon for lasers, and whatnot due to the supply chain issues. It's not like they can just go and set up a fab in Rich Templeton's garage.

ST LM317 50 cents or so for 2: https://www.amazon.in/LM317-IC-Variable-Voltage-Regulator-IC/dp/B08NV97XBF
ULN 2003 are 50 cents each here...Not TI, but ST.
3886 is the proprietary item, and an older Class AB type, low volumes means low production priority at a time when other types are more in demand.
Class D, see what kind of back order is on TI products....I did not check, 3116 seems available from many sources as assembled boards.

So let’s just screw your customers and use up valuable resources for new development runs, for parts you can’t deliver on.
To save my orders and business income I designed out TI parts like the TL783 as one example
Exactly I’ll use a ST part instead
Sorry I do not buy my production parts from Amazon you can if you do chose
I realize your history and affection to TI but business is business and it’s no food on the table if I have to rely on a TI part

I was using TL783 and a LM237 which are a year off now
I get the TI game max profit over supplying long time customers with jellybeans
I will go out of my way to not use a TI part but they do not care about me

Amazon link was just to tell the price range, and for people to decide if it was a genuine part .
I own a plastic factory, and also make hospital items, not much electronics involved.
This is a hobby for me, and I purchase parts locally, as in I go to a shop, and he takes them out from tiny boxes. And is nice enough to order from big city if needed.
😀
I mostly do my own repairs, not in a position to negotiate discounts...not enough volumes.

Um. No. Satisfy your customers' needs for new parts. What do you think would happen to TI if they decided to produce LM3886es instead of whatever Apple wants for their next iThingy? Or Nokia Siemens Networks want for their rollout of 6G? If TI decides to not do product development for a while it would mean massive layoffs of design engineers. What do you think would happen a year or two from now when TI then would want to scale up product development to catch up with their competition? Good circuit designers don't grow on trees. So let’s just screw your customers and use up valuable resources for new development runs, for parts you can’t deliver on.
Besides, development runs tend to be tiny compared to production runs. And I'm sure development runs don't get the highest priority unless there's a key customer with money in hand, screaming for parts shipped yesterday.
I'd also think that a lot of what's being announced these days was developed during COVID, i.e., before the current supply crunch.
If you have that option, that's great. That's your choice. To save my orders and business income I designed out TI parts like the TL783 as one example

Neither do I. And I do not encourage others to do so either. In fact, I have always recommended that you buy from authorized distributors. I saw the writing on the wall pretty early and placed orders for LM3886 at Mouser and Digikey back in January. Mouser has delivered. I forget when Digikey says they'll ship, but I'm pretty sure it's within the next few months. That's enough to carry me through (hopefully, knock-on-wood).Sorry I do not buy my production parts from Amazon you can if you do chose
You're absolutely right. Business is business. That applies to TI as well. I'm sure they're doing whatever they think makes the most business sense FOR THEM. That may not align with your needs, however.I realize your history and affection to TI but business is business and it’s no food on the table if I have to rely on a TI part
I have no insight into what TI's priorities are, but I would imagine that automotive parts, micro controllers, and whatever Apple (or other large customers) needs has very high priority these days. Audio parts - not so much.
