I thouht all motors in the States were automatic?

These days about 95% of all cars sold in the US are indeed automatic. I have owned several manual shift cars.

Earlier in life (the 70's) stick shift cars were more common, and usually cheaper than the same car with an auto trans.

Manual transmissions and clutches were rebuildable by the average backyard mechanic, automatics ran on "black magic" and were only fixable by "trained experts".....until mine broke. Then I learned how to fix them.

My first car was a 1949 Plymouth with worn clutch linkage and bad motor mounts. First gear was not synchronized and after a while I broke second. I wound up rebuilding the entire powertrain and keeping the car for 25+ years.

Most of today's younger US drivers have never driven a stick shift, and wouldn't know how. I must admit that I couldn't handle a friends UK spec Mini. My left hand has never operated a stick shift.

Sand. Teen-age drivers.

I had a VW Golf/Cabrio when my 3 sons were in high school, the head of the service department at the dealer was from Germany...and said to me : "You only get 3 new transmissions". (I think his grandson went to the same high school.)

They finally bought the car back from us when the shifter became disengaged from the gear-box.

The lack of love for Germanium and Selenium rectifiers.

OH and the lack of cotton covered wire use in vintage restorations and indeed in any new builds.

Cotton covered wire for everyone!

The lack of the use of the color Brown.

The over-use of the color black.

Jury duty like I,m doing now as I write this🙄

Done that 4X in Newark NJ -- Essex County -- there were so many complaints that they brought in an outside vendor to run the cafeteria -- a sandwich costs more than the daily stipend of $5. At least the parking is free.

Newark is mostly murder and drug cases. All the malpractice stuff gets settled.

I've been "dis-empanelled" 3 of the 4 times I've shown up.

CD
Been off work for a month and a half due to my mothers death and selling of her home plus work is slow right now.
Went back to work last week
Now I,m off for this without pay just sitting here waiting to be called for a trial..
