Just finished putting a coat of polyurethane on the new workbench top. I replaced two sections but left the back one because I would have to remove the top shelf to get to it.

Unfortunatly, the replacement particle board is not the same size as what they made 32 years ago. It is smaller in two dimensions so there is a slight step from the new sheets to the old one in the back.

Watching a bunch of high-powered amps shove all the power they can into some Nexo Alpha.
I'm worried that we're running ~20kW of amps (per side) on a pair of 32A outlets (one a side).

We didn't manage to get over-current shutdown even with the sub amps driven to clipping during the sound check, so I suspect it'll be fine. Still, its not the 125A 3-phase we used to have.

DJ keeps on messing with the volume on his desk, so I have to keep playing with the faders to stop him running everything into the ground. Should've set a compressor.

Nursing a couple of blisters on me thumb and forefinger. I had forgotten just how hot a piece of metal will get when you drill a small hole in it so when I opened the vice and it fell out it wasn't the greatest idea to pick it up without giving it a little cool down time.

This DIY stuff should have a health warning!
 
How about a P-P 1000 watt per channel tube amp?

Just had a look at the two RCA AT3 transmitter plate xfmers I now have. Got the first one 40 years ago and it has followed me everywhere I have traveled since. Plenty of moves and lots of miles. Ever since I discovered that it was suitable as an audio output transformer for a powerful amp using 833A's or 450TH's in P-P, I have been on the hunt for a second one. I finally found and dragged another home yesterday. These are not easy to find. They are about 75 years old. The AT3 made by RCA in Montreal was a 350 watt HF transmitter of prewar design used at government and military airfields and such. Many saw arctic service in Canada. A pair of P-P 805's plate modulated a pair of parallelled 813's IIRC.

These weigh maybe 80 lbs each and give a decent Plate to Plate tube load to an 8 ohm speaker load. I tested one with P-P 6L6's and it sounded perfectly acceptable as a PA service amp. Since my application is only for bass, the rolloff over 10 KHz will not be an issue. I actually have quite an assortment of largish plate xfmers and of all of them, this Hammond with 25Hz core was the ONLY one that had any decent fidelity used as a tube output xfmer, and in fact the fidelity wasn't bad.

My crazy future plan was to make a 1 kW monoblock subwoofer tube amp. Now I can make a pair of them.

So that's what I'm up to. Still thinking outside the envelope.
