I have read 2 of Mr Hawkings books the one shown and the last being "A grand design" a well researched book I might add until he says the universe in his theory started wit a hydrogen molecule, my argument to this was what time and space did this begin in ,did space exist or did it make it ? as for the book shown "gravitons'really! all this communication and minds and thats the best they can come up with wow, no no no wrong wrong wrong, thats just me beating you guys to a replyBut, BUT!
You presuppose that time existed before the Big Bang. What if time did NOT exist then?
After all, space-time is intercorrelated in our "universe". Perhaps there are other "verses" that have entirely different ideas and manifestations of "time".
Maybe be there are other "universes" for which:
"What time is it? What time is it?"
"There is NO time in space"
Is a true fact.
With that in mind, you can not posit the question about "before the Big Bang"... because by definition, our space-time did not exist then
P.S. tonyEE and TNT, I've changed prior to the Big Bang to immediately after the Big Bang - 10^-43 to 10^-11 seconds after!
Those earliest times of the universe are the ones subject to speculation involving the Singularity Epoch, the Inflation Epoch, and the Cooling Epoch.
Why kill time
When you can kill yourself?
;-)

Doing so, leads to some interesting issues... such as entering links to other posts.... a recursive Big Bang, if you will. Post Time folded unto itself. Warping the space of Post Land.

I've been wondering about those Elac Carina speakers myself., the BS243.4
Well it was all a long time ago. It’s hard to remember what happened. But I think speculation helpfully keeps academics in clean shirts, albeit all the same shirts.Perhaps, traderbam, you should read the link I gave earlier: https://www.thoughtco.com/steady-state-theory-2699310
I sort of like the constant creation out of nothing story, sort of peaceful like a lava lamp. But the cataclysmic, fiery bang is a lot more exciting and therefore I favour it.
I also enjoy the way, when grand theories dont quite fit the evidence, that stuff just gets made up until the theory works. Reminds me of UK politics. The way the universe is expanding doesn’t fit the math therefore dark matter and dark energy. Dark being short for “the dark arts of making my theory work.”
I’m not criticizing the process of guessing, just so long as we remember we are guessing.
This separates mathematicians from physicists, of course. Mathematicians don’t need to guess.

I put LED lights in my collection of lava lamps... I think I broke them.
Just like I put my HDTV OTA and FM radio antennas in a Faraday Cage to keep them from being toasted in the event of an EMP. Now, my reception is really bad. I only get the CIA channel telling me that a Giant Praying Mantis has destroyed half the country. (*)
Physicists are tied to reality, well sort of... (**)... we know when we drop a pencil, it falls. So we cross out all those small order terms that "go to zero"... that makes the mathematicians go nuts.
(*) We just got done watching a pretty bad movie from the 50s.
(**) ...except perhaps for lava lamps.
I know I have a pass in Second year Physics in Heat and Thermodynamics, PH212 IIRC. That combined with knowing the chemistry of Lava Lamps, which are based on immiscible liquids.I put LED lights in my collection of lava lamps... I think I broke them.

You must restore the origiinal or replacement Wattage lightbulbs to ensure further success. It is a heat process that drives these most interesting of lamps. To make them more environmentally friendly must need a complete redesign. 🙂

No.... that takes too much electricity... it's 22 cents per KwH.
Perhaps I could use some kind of plasma energy to energize the lava? Will that put some back EMF into the power line though? It might affect the soundstage of my nice big A2s.
I did notice too that playing some kind of music made the lava lamps work better. Stuff like Pink Floyd's Meddle does wonder for the plastic flow of the lava... but playing rap just collapses the motion.
Hmm... maybe I could put the lava lamps on tops of the A5s and A2s. Those babies COOK.
Lava lamps driven by Class A with a touch of 2nd harmonic... hmm...
Perhaps the Universe was born from a Big Lava Lamp that went Krakatoa..... Woosh! Bang!

Yeah, sorry about that, but I declared it and didn't try to hide it like some unscrupulous posters do. 🙂
Truth is, I got into a tizzy regarding the sequence of events surrounding the Big Bang.
I wrote earlier (see page 412) that many think that cosmic inflation came before the Big Bang rather than after it, i.e., cosmic inflation was the beginning of the universe, not the Big Bang.
A 'hot Big Bang' is regarded as the very first moment that the Universe could be described by a particle, antiparticle and radiation-filled state.
It is from the hot Big Bang state that the Universe begins expanding and cooling according to the laws of General Relativity, heading down the path towards matter/antimatter annihilation, the formation of atomic nuclei, then neutral atoms, and ultimately the formation of stars and galaxies.
It is the inflationary state that led to the hot Big Bang state that is not explainable in terms of the physics that you or I currently understand.

Ethan Siegel sounds convincing in the above link, but what's your take on the events surrounding the Big Bang, tonyEE?

Come on, take a wild guess and maintain the trend. 🤔It is the inflationary state that led to the hot Big Bang state that is not explainable in terms of the physics that you or I currently understand.

You want inflation?
I gassed up the car yesterday... $6.25 a gallon for 87 octane.
2 dozen, large brown eggs at Costco $7.35
Half a gallon of heavy cream at Costco over $11 ( if they have it ).
A pack of Costco rotisserie chicken breast meat over $16
My electric bill is over $300 a month, using as much power as last year when it was about $200.
A "mint condition" Marantz 2325 on eBay is listed at over $3000.
That's INFLATION.
I just got a 4% raise! Inflation is running over 20%.
I never thought we'd Big Bang ourselves into Venezuela.
Wow, you're livin high off the hog down there! We're payin almost 10 bucks a gal. up here. Cost me over $200.00 to fill up my van!
Quit yer complainin 🤨

Why should I accept gas prices artificially high due to insane political decisions?
Your train of thought is why the Canadian and Australian and Kiwi government are totalitarian... and why the Germans will likely attack Poland and France again next year (to steal their gas).
You misinterpreted my premise. I'm just as pissed off as you, just highlighting the difference.
I never thought of our gov't as totalitarian, however that's a topic for another forum oxymoronic as it may seem🤐

Yeah.... the Universe is full of odd harmonics. If only we had more even tempered harmonics, the world would just sound better. ;-)
I just turned on the A2s... after warming up the preamp (tubes) and ancillary stuff (solid state) for a couple of hours. We are running the AC... which is sort of nuts. But, such are the sacrifices when in search for an "even" tempered soundstage.

I'd like to mark the occasion by attaching Webb's debut deep-field image.
The red streaks are the most distant galaxies we have currently seen, as they were around 4.6 billion years ago.
It's mind-boggling to realise that this image represents an area of the Universe roughly the same size as a grain of sand held at arm’s length!

Hate to mention this Galu, but surely a Schoolboy mistake there. JWST observes back to not 4.6 Bn Years ago, but about 13.3 Bn Years.
And it does well.
I watched the whole thing this afternoon with fascination:
https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/#public
TBH, I found Gravitational Lensing unsurprising. We know this stuff.
I did grow irritated by the Primary School presentation. "Hello Bangalore,YAY" an' all that. NASA presents its efforts as for the Whole World.
But then saying it is a Triumph for the USA! 🙄
But I did investigate the Carina Nebula:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-62140044
The Southern Constellation of Carina is extremely interesting. Containing the second brightest star in the sky, Canopus, and the weirdly unstable and hugher Eta Carina.
I was slightly confused if the Carina Nebula included the Horsehead Nebula. No, different things.
TBH. I am not learning much here. It was all in Patrick Moore's "Observers Book of Astronomy".
A mere £1.10 in its day. And conveniently pocket-sized.

Yes, I got my distances mixed up! 4.6 billion years refers to the foreground galactic cluster. 😳
