It was you, mchambin, who introduced me to the Bancroft Method.

Get your teeth into this, you mathematicians! 😱

The beauty of the Bancroft methode is that it gives analytical results.
No iteration, direct results, fast number crushing.
The maths looks difficult, for non mathematicians, but once done and programmed the calculation is easy for now days calculators.
All is done in a chip like the SIRF star III.

It is fun to play with a GPS receiver that plugs on a Notebook USB port.
Cost: About $30.

The nth dimension.

i.e. nD (where n = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.)

Earlier, we looked at the 4D tesseract (again!).

Now I've found a nice animation that shows the progression from a point (n=0), to a line (n=1), to a square (n=2), to a cube (n=3), to a tesseract (n=4).

Let's see if the animation works here:

A dimension is something we can move or travel through.

From the viewpoint of special relativity, you move through a combination of space and time.

When you stand still, then all your traveling is through time.

Update on the Contreras Fire which had blazed its way to the Kitt Peak National Observatory by June 17.

The wildfire destroyed a dormitory and other non-scientific buildings, but it did not reach any of the telescopes at Kitt Peak.

However, it has still to be ascertained how much damage the telescopes may have suffered due to smoke, airborne ash, and heat.

Here's more on four-dimensional geometry just to pass my time. 🤓

Did you know that the glome is the 4D representation of the 3D sphere and 2D circle?

The name derives from the Latin "glomus" meaning "ball of string".
