Doesn't seem to be any sound. Whyever not? 😕
Because of the low density of the Martian atmosphere, the microphone would have to be much closer to the helicopter to hear it at the same volume as it would on Earth.

The carbon dioxide atmosphere attenuates high frequency sound more than low. Since the rapidly rotating blades of the helicopter would produce predominately high frequencies, its sound would be attenuated. This would be more noticeable the farther it was from the microphone.

My father wouldn't accept that I could study effectively while music was playing, so he kept cutting the mains plug off my valve amplifier!

I still think he was the cause of me failing all my maths exams! 😀

The amp remains in use in my man cave, but its power cable is reduced to a mere one metre in length!

Collins ... says he wasn't lonely at all.
Collins said he knew from pre-flight questions that he would be described as a lonely man ("Not since Adam has any man experienced such loneliness").

He describes how he actually felt in his biography "Carrying the Fire", which I purchased in a charity shop just prior to Covid.

"Far from feeling lonely or abandoned, I feel very much part of what is taking place on the lunar surface.

I don't mean to deny a feeling of solitude. It is there, reinforced by the fact that radio contact with the Earth abruptly cuts off at the instant I disappear behind the Moon.

I am alone now, truly alone, and absolutely isolated from any known life. I am it.

I feel this powerfully - not as fear or loneliness - but as awareness, anticipation, satisfaction, confidence, almost exultation. I like the feeling."

I had to look up INTJ... 😕

Just before he reached the far side on the third orbit, Mission Control informed Collins there was a problem with the temperature of the coolant. If it became too cold, parts of Columbia might freeze.

Mission Control advised him to assume manual control and implement Environmental Control System Malfunction Procedure 17.

Instead, Collins flicked the switch on the offending system from automatic to manual and back to automatic again, and carried on with normal housekeeping chores, while keeping an eye on the temperature.

When Columbia came back around to the near side of the Moon again, he was able to report that the problem had been resolved. For the next couple of orbits, he described his time on the far side of the Moon as "relaxing".

Switch it off and switch it on again! Usually works for me too. Quicker and you can do more interesting things. He must have told the story after leaving NASA. They are big on procedures. 😀

<------ Hah! At the very least there's a part of the diyaudio community that fit in the "judgemental" part of the definition 😀

I don't know where I fit in modern psychology, and while I feel very associated with these points:
INTJs tend to be introverted and prefer to work alone.
INTJs look at the big picture and like to focus on abstract information rather than concrete details.
INTJs place greater emphasis on logic and objective information rather than subjective emotions.

I am very against this point:
INTJs like their world to feel controlled and ordered so they prefer to make plans well in advance.
Because I get bored very fast. Well... I do like some firm routines, like things in the morning MUST happen in a specific order: Fall out of bed, clothes, drainage, coffee, car. And I like to know where I should be at the beginning of my workday. But whatever happens for the remainder of the day could be decided by coin tossing and random cards for all I care.

INTJ Personality: Characteristics, Myths & Cognitive Functions

Edit:
Just took a quick test, and while it may be completely unrepresentative, I did get INTJ as a result.
You always try to be straightforward with people — a trait that they often appreciate — and you rarely sugar-coat things.

I looked up intj as well...
First link was 16personalities.com so I skimmed that.
Tried their test.
Result - bunk, as usual. Done many such tests over the years, they are all variously wrong. Doesn't really surprise me, people are near impossible to pigeonhole like that...
Psychology as a whole has a long way to go!

Edit - tried the test Kaffiman linked to - totally different result!! Almost opposite... I rest my case!

Hi all,

I don't often post. Still, this universe thread is right up my alley. The thing which puzzles the heck out of me is this whole business of we're all just zooming around in "empty" space. I mean, really, there's no "up, down, left, right"... we're just zooming around in empty space.

THAT is totally weird, and kinda scares the crap out of me.

Of course, but they do make clear the potential ambiguity. For this reason alone there's not much use in it. IQ testing is no less ambiguous. If you're of average intelligence you have the potential of genius, but who's definition?
