"I love football (real football, not pansy Third World stuff)"
I played rugby. The real pansies around here are the ones that wear all that protection gear. And, who are able to exchange team members at will when they get tired.
And, there've been quit a few rugby wings that could do 100m in 10 sec flat - with rugby boots and a ball. Lets not talk about a rugby scrum either. A good place to get your face and ears permanently modified.
There are plenty of lawyers, doctors, physicists etc who played rugby and university level and look like they spent time inside because they were in the scrum.
There's nothing pansy about soccer either. If you have ever played it you will know it requires extreme fitness and skill. Yes, there's some theatrics, but so what, I see that in every sport.
Then there's cricket. A baseball comes at 90 MPH. A cricket ball is harder, weighs about the same and comes at 120 MPH from a fast bowler. You do need a crotch box and a face mask in that sport.

I love football (real football, not pansy Third World stuff) and can't think of any sport I'd rather watch, but baseball is a greater game.
I agree, baseball is an amazing team sport.
I've heard people criticize basketball (tallness), cricket (boring and slow), soccer (acting, weakness, too sensitive to refereeing), Rugby and Australian football (looks uncivilized, too sensitive to refereeing)....
....but what evils are there to say about baseball?
By "real football", I assume you mean the special American version where the players all hide inside full body armour and they get to stop for a rest every couple of minutes?I love football (real football, not pansy Third World stuff)
Yes, actual skill required, which makes it a pleasure to watch (for some of us). There's nothing pansy about soccer either. If you have ever played it you will know it requires extreme fitness and skill.

Like billiards? Table-tennis? Ice-hockey?
The perfect sport has no room for theatrics, but in soccer they should give red cards for ALL no contact dives, then maybe the players would stop acting like little schoolgirls.

Yes, I agree. They should be carded.
But then American footballers should take off their protective gear also. Let's see a few flat noses, cauliflower ears, fractured skulls, ruptured vertebra etc.
IIRC last nights match two players were carried off the field in a gurney (sp?). That's an almost 10% attrition rate!
Armies have surrendered for less 😉

Again, the same misconception from people with no understanding of real football. It isn't armor they wear, it's weaponry.
Rugby is the only hope I have for Europe. It's a tough, superb sport.

Any so called sport where you can be overweight, have a hot dog when you're not on the field and wait for a half an hour or more between your turn at bat is just a game.

C'mon SY, who are you kidding . . .
It's worse than that. Although I really like the game, I read somewhere not too long ago that in the 3 plus hours it takes to complete a match, there's less than 10 minutes when the ball is in play.and they get to stop for a rest every couple of minutes?
People talk as some time ago played something.
Are there such important world coup in other sports like football?
I am sorry to inform: the best rugby played on the world is in NZeland, Australia, SouthAfrica and Argentina.

Yes...of course in those real action sports the players rest and heal for days to a week between matches - baseball is just about everyday. Cal that seems possible, a typical pitched ball is in flight for about 0.5 second. Figure about 300 pitches in the average game that gives 2.5 minutes. Harder to ballpark the time in play for grounders, flyouts, hits & homers, double plays, steal attempts, etc. It could amount to 10 minutes. Kind of like chess where the time spent moving pieces is a tiny fraction of game-time.
I wasn't talking about rounders.
And if MLB players are not smoking as much anymore, they sure as hell are chewing 'baccy.

That part is sadly true. Doesn't affect endurance, acts as a stimulant, and causes all sorts of nasty cancers later in life.
Cal that seems possible
Hi Kevin,
I was responding to Godfrey's comment about American football. I wouldn't have a clue about baseball. I only watch real man sports like Curling. Now there a true sport for ya!
