Time after time I get confused when I read thoughts about "real DIY", like here:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/soli...-am-trying-new-amplifier-109.html#post2139032
Could someone kindly explain me what is the "Real DIY"? Is it a "try and fail" approach? Is it no need to study new circuits, new things? Is it just playing around circuits and waiting what would happen?
Thanks to anyone for answering.

Real DIY <-DIY-> Engineering
This question is rather uninteresting. The main thing is to have fun.
I think it is what ever works for you.
I couldn't get through that entire post you linked to, but I think the point is trying things you want to, enjoying the things you do, looking for, asking for and appreciating help, engaging in positive and constructive discussions without blame, criticism or bias and sharing your experiences and expertise as best you can. After all, we learn by asking, studying, trying, doing, discussing and maybe most of all, teaching.
How's that for saying nothing of content?

Diy
There's different levels of DIY. I think level 1 DIY starts with plugging in your store bought stereo set and trying different speaker arrangements. Some people pay for installation. To me DIY = hands on.

DIY means doing your own stuff, and care less about what others might think about it
Actually I have NEVER been real happy with bought plug and play stuff
I can imagine that the next level is curcuit design, but that I will leave to more skilled people
Actually I would say that curcuit design is not DIY, but goes far beyond being DIY
What you may call "real" DIY, collecting the bits and pieces for a design, is becoming exeedingly difficult day by day, from the financial cost perspective
Every month there are new tested and ready to play module blocks offered at attractive prices
Its certainly bad to loathe people who takes a different route
Hell, if someone loves an easy going small and cheap T-amp running on a single battery, why should that bother me
In the end its all about enthusiasm, whatever makes you happy
Without joy and pleasure its worth nothing, no matter how good it is
Sometimes I say to a friend, "if it really needs that much explaining, maybe its not so good at all"
Meaning, the genuine good stuff speaks for itself

It means rather than getting a life we play around with this stuff.
Or having had a life it means that we can both afford and have the inclination to play around with this stuff.. 😀
I have not made it that far in life yet.Or having had a life it means that we can both afford and have the inclination to play around with this stuff.. 😀
Uh, I don't know in English, and I am wacky, so I don't know, this is now a question or a revelation? 😀
Real DIY is all about rolling up your sleaves, and havin' a crack, Doesn't really matter how, just have a go. You'll make up your own mind in the end.
All of the above. Is wacky like wacker? If yes, I'm sure you understand quite well.:😛😀
Wacker I do not use. Wacky = buggyant.
Every DIY'er goes through a number of stages.
1. Destroy It Yourself
2. Do It Yourself
3. Design It Yourself
4. Discover diyAudio.com
5. Debate It Yourself

Does this simply mean you drive Peugeot? ie, a buggy for ants?

Not exactly. This is the king of the cars, you know?
Some a'sshole may arrange a king sometimes unfortunately.
Peugeot was my car always.
Sure, i know, this proves it only, I am wacky.
But if something is the trouble of this possibly is, myself do it.
Wacky
My mother-in-law drives the 308 diesel..... its not bad, but thanx for the bite, have not been fishing for ages!
My first machine one Peugeot 504 were..
The rust corroded this when I bought it, when this was thirteen year ones already, who knows it with how many kilometres.
But I loved very much, was like that, than a tractor, but very comfortable.
My avatar is the badge of this.
They paid attention to the details yet then.
Check it out her 308 badges.
My next car 405 were the wine-red ones which can be seen on the picture.
They fooled me with this, because than it lightened up later, on three year ones car ran 200k kilometre.
I yet another 300k I was going with him, and then would have served if the poachers do not floor it.
But this lion protected our life with his last breath.
We got away through it without a scratch practically.
Twenty-one year ones were poor.
An acquaintance of mine, who knows it, how wacky I am, advised it, let me not try to improve this already because of that.
Since I am a decent person unfortunately,
I satisfy all taxability, I am poor, than church mouse.
Like this an other one 405 I was bought.
This is fifteen year ones, a child only yet.
Yeah, all were gasoline with an engine.
Wacky
PS.:
You know, what is synonym for the expression honest at us?
I will tell you, honest = wacky.
