What is the meaning of the "Real DIY"

Not exactly sure where this fits in but a few years ago there was reference in a post to a low value, high wattage "non-inductive" resistor. I had seen how to make your own on another site. I liked learning how to wind wire non-inductively and suggested the guy could look it up. The next post suggested that I could always go out a buy one!
I wondered then why he was on a diy site in the first place. I guess it varies with me on the ammount of time, money and frustration I have as to exactly how much actual "diy" I attempt.

When I started nearly 40 yrs ago there was a lot more you could yourself. I mean I couldn't attempt to make a magnetic cartridge or build a semi conductor but you could do a lot more than now.....especially if you go digital

My nickname is 'Madmick', very similar to wacky. I drive fords exclusively, my last one (Ford Falcon) did 560,000ks, and saw most of this big bad country. It was retired after the clutch cable wore through the sump, not a bad effort i thought. I will tell you that by this stage it was an absolute hack, but still going strong. My Mother-in laws last car was the 307, great fuel economy, not much to not like about it, except, the interior fell apart from new! She was not happy about that, however the 308 is fairing better so far.

Hehehe Mick you will get a bite from me too. I've been driving a Peugeot 306 S16 for the last 13 1/2 years! Before that it was a Morris 1100 also strangely for about 13 years.

Now owning a morrie 1100 is definitely something that lends itself to DIY'ing!! You can't own a car like that unless you DIY IMO 🙂

For me DIYing is about the satisfaction one gets from making something that may or may not be, better than something you would have bought, but for all intents and purposes is YOUR creation, and it works! Sometimes the results are better than others, but it is nice to be able to stand back and say "I made that, and it doesn't sound/look too bad" 🙂

Tony.

PS. this is my car

This thread is definitely running on two levels!
So let me add my Peugeot experience. We got a secondhand 1976 504 Wagon in 1983 with the extra seat in the back. Loved it. It was the only suitable thing for the five kids where they all faced forward. (In those days you could get a Mazda or a Merc with extra seats but they faced out the back.) But definitely idiosyncratic engineering.

So let me share one of my EU stories.
"In Heaven the British are the police, the Germans are the engineers, the French are the cooks, the Italians the lovers and the Swiss do the organizing..........but in Hell...the British are the cooks, the Germans are the police, the French are the engineers, the Swiss are the lovers and the Italians do the organizing."

Sorry, I know it is not politically correct. I only hope I have offended everyone equally.

Hi Gyuri, it is black (well the colour is actually called onyx) it has a very slight brown tinge to it 🙂 There was a lot of green around which it may have been reflecting. Could also be the white balance off on the camera. I'm red/green colour blind, so probably wouldn't notice!

Tony.

Pavel, apart from the doing vs. talking (about) things, which I'm guilty of too - I talk too much! - , receiving advices isn't always easy.
You are aware of: "Ratschläge sind auch Schläge!" ?
Dunno how to rephrase this to english...
So if someone doesn't want your advice, don't take it personal and let the issue rest.
regards
