Radios from the 20s are super cool. The tubes on top kind. If you're getting rid of some, I'd be interested.

Hmmmm....! You aren't moving anywhere any time soon !😀
Good point! By "some" I guess I meant "one." 🙂
I'm always moving somewhere. Never lived at the same address more than 5 years in my entire life.

I think that's a very good thing. Always have fresh surroundings every 5 years......good for the mind. Also you never get stuck or hassled by any negative vibes that one place might have. ( Vasthu...Feng-Shui .....etc. )
AND you can do a real house clean up before it gets unwieldy !

I have been on this planet just short of 58 years. All of that time has been spent within 40 miles of where I was born. 32 years in this house.

All of them are tubes in the box kind. Some of the boxes are wooden (RCA and Silvertone) and some are metal (Atwater Kent).
Come to think of it, not even sure I've made it to 5 years at one address.
Can't keep still.
One of the sad points of moving was having to sell my 50's vintage TV sets. One round tube, one Predicta. Hated to see them go.
Well if you have any "industrial" or "lab equipment" looking 20s radios I'd be interested. From the time before they became the beautiful furniture of the 1930s - if that makes any sense.
This sort of style.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I'm still living in the same house in which I was born, for more than 40 years. I can't imagine moving would do my mind any good at all. If/when I have to move it will be out of necessity due to matters beyond my control.
Places don't have negative vibes: they have noise, pollution, squalor, - or the absence of those. All measurable, quantifiable qualities that can be evaluated before moving in.
One of the things I like so much about old collectible audio equipmemt, records, and books, is imagining who used to own it, what their musical or literary tastes were, what the music/stories meant to them, and so on.
Noise and pollution I think are the biggest offenders. When we moved to this house it used to be a very quiet and clean neighbourhood. After 40 years we have pretty dense traffic on the adjacent road ( with noisy vehicles) all day long and visible pollution. The fans get dirty within a few days after they are cleaned. Must be killing our lungs slowly !
Most houses are being demolished and being converted into multistoried buildings. So natural wind flow ( which used to be very significant ) has been obstructed making summers even hotter than they used to be.
Moving to a similar place like it was here 40 years ago will mean that we must move out of town by about 30/40 Km or so !🙁

I have a few of those. I'll get pictures this weekend.
To take care of disposal of all your goodies that family members most likely think is junk , have you guys already made a WILL ?
They keep telling us that if you are over 40 you must make a will ! Might ensure that it will not just be dumped in a garbage bin and that it will be of some use to another fellow diyer!
I started making mine but it isn't complete yet. Too many things to be listed on it !😉

I don't have descendants, no need to make a will. Audio gear will end up in ebay or a dumpster; unless I choose to have a Fharaonic funeral.
I like the naked version. This sort of style.

That tuner (?) looks great . Was it made just yesterday 60 years ago ?
Beautiful. I'd like to have one just going by it's looks. Looks very Earthy ! No pretensions at all ! WYSIWYG.
I don't have direct decendants too ! But I know lots of guys who would enjoy having some of the gear. I always worry about TONS of components ! Throw them in a dumpster ? 24 x LM394 , PCM63's , etc. etc ? A crime. I will complete that WILL !😀
I forgot: If you had a Pharaonic funeral would you like your internal organs syringed out or should they stay in place ? I'd guess you really don't need the old ones in the NEXT world !

Who knows what I'll need, better take everything I can - organs included.
Ha ..ha...Ha ! Right. We don't really know what we'd need in the NEXT world. Better to take everything we can rather than be sorry we didn't carry them over ! Jeez....we couldn't nip back for a moment to pick up something we forgot. Yeah , better we carry more than we need than to find a way to get back for a moment.
In my case there wouldn't be a body to get back into !😱 They would have burned it to ashes or the crooks at the crematorium would have doused the fire and sold my skeleton to some fraud medical college..😱😱

my skeleton
Not yours any longer. All of our parts are on lease, until the day Nature claims them back. Same with everything we have made in life, dust for everyone and everything. Just a matter of time. My metallic amps will take longer time to decompose though.
Depressing? Not in the least, too much junk in this world - me included. 😀

Yeah, that's a real work of art. I've owned a lot of old radios, but never from the 20s. Would love something in that style.
I would have to be chopped up first but that's a good idea. My face in place of my 8" driver will look too rounded at the funeral, though.

I have one daughter and two grandkids. I have no words to describe my son in law that can be printed here. I had a lawyer create a will and set up a living trust to use whatever assets of value we leave behind to care for and educate the grandkids.
To anyone other than the DIYers here, my "stuff" isn't worth anything. Odds are that Sherri will outlive me since she is several years younger and female. If that is the case, she can sell off what ever I leave behind.
Either way we have been exercising our "stuff reduction plan". We should be completely out of another rental storage unit by next weekend as long as hurricane Paula stays away. That will save us another $200 a month. This week I watched some friends get laid off...again. Eliminating unnecessary expenses is a must since my turn is going to come sooner or later. The usual big ones (mortgage, car payments) have been eliminated, but the costs of living in two places and caring for a cancer patient are significant.
We gave away a lot of "stuff". We got takers for just about everything except for my DIY electronics stuff. I repeatedly offered free stuff here and elsewhere with no takers, so about 500 pounds of transformers went to the metal scrapper. 🙁
