What design for a pair of 12" Goodmans 401 ?

Hi,

Sorry, missed your data for whatever reason...
AJHorn is not about horns exclusively, it´s a general simulation software which has gained a quite good reputation over the years.
I simulated your drivers: No. 1 in a 100 liter box with a 10cm port of 8cm length gives good results and a nice response down into the 40´s (the black curve). No. 2 (in red) struggles, it has around 1,5dB lower overall efficiency and the same alignment will produce a 3dB hump around 80Hz, not good. This hump can be eased a little bit by making the port longer, 15cm.
Now, the question is: will that matter? Room acoustics and box placement will have quite an influence, too. And you´ll be listening to historic drivers where some of todays requirements to have "similar" drivers (in reality such thing doesn´t exist...) might be eased a little bit.
So I´d say go for it and enjoy the old stuff!

All the best

Mattes
