Some of the early top of the line Sony ES models had them too (even one of them had S1 version).Lately I came across Sony 337ESD from 1987year that had two 1541A on the board.

also I found a local eBay seller in Taiwan selling SAA7220P/B, if you need SAA7220p/B to go along with TDA1541A update, check it on...
This guy also sell TDA1541A, A-R1, and TDA1545A too, but price is not very good though...

I have a Philips CD471 in front of me. It hosts the TDA1541A! not the normal 1541. But the accompanying IC is of the P/A-type instead of the P/B-type. Could this be the reason why there is noise on the right channel.

I did not find trace of a modification from a previous user.

No,It's not the source of your noiseproblem.

During the production of the 471, Philips introduced the cdm4 and the A version of the TDA1541.
