Hello!
A buddy of mine gave me a pair of plate amps with very nice transformers in them, they are 49v-0-49v and probably 200-300VA each.
Can an Aleph or some other Papa amp be run on +/- 60v? Or is there something else to consider?
Are there any major disadvantages to this? (other than more expensive capacitors?)

I am sorry, I did not see this was pass labs section and you were looking to build one class A amplifier.

DeLite, although interesting, is completely impractical due to hot lightbulbs sticking out the top... Toddler-proof it isn't.
Treat it as an educational opportunity.
DeLite style amps can also be built with resistors on heat sinks, but they don't look as cool...

There is a version of the F5 Turbo that could do that.
As long as I don't need much more than approximately 500VA total, I know what I will be making!
be prepared for the beast of a hundred fets and monster heatsinks
I'd like to build an F4.......
Not to thread-jack, but I have a similar question.......
I have one of Nelson's toroids that he was giving away at BA2 (he showed up with a truckload of them).
It's got dual 0-115VAC primaries, and dual 45V/6.6A secondaries.
If I wired the primary in series to get 22.5V out of the secondaries, is that too much V for an F4 build? If it requires lots of mods, I'll just find a dual 18V 300-400VA transformer.....

60-0-60 is getting quite high for Class A - But still doable with huge heatsinks.
My Aleph 4 runs at 48-0-48 and does get QUITE WARM.
You might be able to produce an Aleph Turbo with 60-0-60V
Might be better to decide what you want to build and sell the traffos and buy the ones that you need.

Darn it, 6L6 (Jim)........ It appears you've given Papa Pass ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY to taunt us, about the pending F5 Turbo...
(Nine days......but who's counting???? )
