Disney's latest "Jungle Book" - just remember it's based on a 50yr old cartoon "adapation" of the Kipling stories, but - rather a masterful work of CGI, and perfect vocal casting.
IMAX 3D 4K laser at the Nat Geo theatre. There are times when 12 channels of surround actually become an integral part of the story envelopment , beyond just rocket ship launches and hopelessly over EQ'd fight sequences.
An 8:15 showing, so finished just after 10:00PM, and some young-uns in the front row were dancing to the closing credit music. For a little under 2 hours, I felt like a little bit of a kid again myself.

Of late...
The Secret Life of Pets, mindless fun and what you've suspected but couldn't prove. Makes me want an 'attack rabbit' (the best take on that since Monty Python), and poodles just like 'getting down'.
Zootopia, beautifully rendered right down to the fur. A pleasant nudge, as you know the people that the critters represent....and why we should act and treat each other better than we do. And I'll get off this soapbox... 😉

"The Patsy" with Marion Davies and Marie Dressler, directed by King Vidor. Very highly recommended. Davies was the paramour of William Randolph Hearst and didn't marry until he had passed away.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Beautifully choreographed mayhem.
Yes, they killed my dog end of their story.

Mmmm, didn't notice a canine casualty 'midst all that 'brouhaha', Scott....did the production crew on site punch the puppy's ticket, or is this a veiled reference? Or what?
My condolences, in any case...

Come on, the dog thing in "Kingsman"??? or maybe Jack Reacher or the Shooter. The point, if the dog dies you all die pretty good point IMHO.

!*slaps self sillier* Oh, yeah....that dog thing. The 'kill your dog' in my office to show me how cold you can be...
I would have shot his foot. "Here, clean that up yourself. I like my dog better than I like you. Esp. after a request like that...."
Sorry, neuron disassociation re that scene. Too impressed by people getting poleaxed and other graphic chit...*L*
Whoever wrote that scene hadn't been around the Beltway in D.C. I've heard that if you want a friend in Washington, buy a dog....

Just finished watching Stranger Things on Netflix. HOLY CRAP was that series good. It is a masterful sci-fi/supernatural type of thriller, very much in the vein of the 80s classics. I can't stress enough how good this show was, I was hooked around 10-15 min into the first episode and finished the whole series in two days. Well written, well acted, the soundtrack and score are perfect (and period appropriate), the whole thing is amazing quality.
Poirot.
Scott -- I imagine you are of the generation which can't watch "Old Yeller". Wifey tells me that one of our sons will still yield tears when Bambi's mom gets shot.

John Wick illustrates that the globe is as good as ready for the launch of Pokemon Go with a Loaded Gun.
Caught the latest biopic on Steve Jobs - Fassbender and Winslet were amazing, and I suspect this could have been Seth Rogan's lifetime best performance.
Made Ashton's work in the earlier "Jobs" look like a middle school talent show - and that's probably his own highwater mark as well?
How close this came to the very complicated story behind a "not well made" man (if I remember that quote correctly) was irrelevant to my enjoyment of the film as a piece of work.

Tried again after 10yr to get through "Realm of the Senses" couldn't do it. Boring as hell, I don't get the reviewers praises unless their trying to silence the critics of using non-simulated sex. I guess maybe it's a lesson in watch out what you wish for.

Nice catharsis film. Again, you killed my dog now it's over for all of you. I figure that will be the end of self driving cars, someone like Larry Ellison's toy poodle will be killed by an errant Uber cab and a 10 billion lawsuit will ensue.
Finally watched "No Country for Old Men". I don't get it. Just a lot of killing and not much else. I admire the Coen brothers, but this left me cold.
Texas, money, the change of time, and there's no escaping destiny, the elements are all there.
Brilliant ending, but just watching Javier Bardem is a treat. An actor who's potential I vastly underestimated in Jamon Jamon a quarter century ago (but likely Penélope Cruz did too).
(Ethan/Joel's 'A Serious Man' is more difficult to fathom)

A treat? He doesn't do anything. How is that a treat? I can imagine the Coens behind the camera. "No, CUT!, you made a facial expression. Stop doing that". "OK, blank stare - good - roll 'em".
The plot is empty and preposterous at the same time, which is a good trick. The Coen brothers are excellent craftsmen, but this film did not rise above that.

Ouch, it's been a while, so I have to share all the stuff I saw since last time...

Lol, no way, I would need enough space to write a movie/documentary encyclopedia.
One of the latest documentaries I enjoyed watching is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc1tZ8JsZvg
• Watch Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World (2016) - Full Movie Streaming
The Internet, since the very beginning...1969...and up till now today...fascinatingly scary.
Director: Werner Herzog → One of the best filmmakers (important) living today. I will get the eventual Blu.
No mickey mouse comics like 'Captain America: Civil War' here, which I also watched not long ago, on BR in 3D and in 2D.

By the way, No Country for Old Man I love very much. Yes it has drugs, money, cartel, blood and violence in it. But we all knew that. It's a great flick with great tension and superb performance by Javier Bardem. And Josh Brolin does a good job too. Tommy Lee Jones' not bad either, not bad @ all.

It's a beautiful day here today on the Island.
Cheers,
