I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Bonsai, but I suspect your son's interest in strong Beer is to be discouraged. 😀
Personally I always seek VALUE!
Whether a horse in the Prix de l'arc de Triomphe:
Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Betting Odds - Winner | Horse Racing | Oddschecker
Or more mundanely, wines.
Two particular bargains picked up tonight. A Red Bordeaux and a White Cotes de Gascogne.

Iceing on the cake was I got the Cotes de Gascogne for £4.78! 😎
But frankly, it is PLONK. 🙄
I am fancying horses LOVE and MOJO STAR as each way bets on Sunday in the Prix. But am watching TRUESHAN too in a lesser but rich race. 🙂

Here’s another one brewed in Manc at Pomona Island. Some may recognize the beer name is linked to a famous sci-fi movie
"Waiter! There's a finger in my beer ...."
I hade a glass (5 cl) of Japanese Roku Gin.
@Steve they’re actually all craft beers. Small breweries that have carved a niche out selling short runs of beer. I’ve had a few that were seriously good. Unfortunately/fortunately they are not cheap and that’s the feedback loop that prevents him from overindulging. A typical can of craft beer at 8-12 % ABC runs at £9 to £12 and he had one (17% ABV) that cost £18.

Oooo, I love that. Charleston Heston did well in it, although a bit campy.
New Belgium Trippel.
I get it for the same price as SNPA and other regular gravity beers so I go for the flavor.

I'll bite. I won't be drinking THAT beer...
The green ferret ... ferry ... fairy. The thujon is already making my braincells go bazookas.
Some more from my son’s beer book

Most of the day I am drinking Kirkland (Costco) black coffee, or Melita. From time to time Costco changes their supplier, this time the coffee was very finely ground, not quite to the texture of expresso but close.
Here’s the 17 percenter I mentioned last nite
At 17% alcohol they must be using champagne yeast (unless they've developed new high alcohol beer yeasts in the recent past). That would impact the taste quite a bit.

I dunno. It’s all detailed on the label I think.
@Bonsai. Good beer book. I am glad your son keeps a record of his boozing explorations. 😀
More of the same £6 Bordeaux for me tonight. This is Paris racing weekend.
TRUESHAN turned out to be the horse star I predicted here! 😎
Trueshan is a superstar stayer! Group 1 Cadran glory goes to Alan King at ParisLongchamp - YouTube
But my number one rule of betting is never bet on favourites. 11-10 seemed a waste of time to me. Paris was a bog after the rain. Quite fancied my chances on last year's boggy winner. I was on the grey PRINCESS ZOE at 4-1. Easy to picjk your horse out too. £2!
Ah well. Good race. Poor ol' STRADIVARIUS tried hard in conditions that hardly suited his fleet of foot.
Onto the Arc tomorrow. A total of £4 each way bets shared between long odds MOJO STAR and LOVE. Decent horses.

Ahh yes - both good beers 🙂
My sister-in-law once provided me a local beer that is made with red wine made near Abbeville - not the best and an instant hangover! It also has the bad habit of foaming up really badly! 😱
The Mrs is French (Dunkerque) so I have tried a lot around the north/flanders 😀
The best beer I had in France was Corsican 🙂
Tonight I made a cocktail with Cnadian whisky (Wiser's Deluxe), a dash of Angostura bitters, and Australian port (Wolf Blass red label "Australian Tawny") along with a home-made maraschino cherry, kind of like a Manhattan. It didn't suck. 🙂
