What are the great 'audio capacitors' and where do I get a good price on them?

I am looking to buy M-Caps by Mundorf, 22uF 250V for my Beryllium tweeter protection. Where do I get them at good price? Also, what do you think about the Nichicon MUSE BP Electrolytic Audio Capacitors?

Thanks!

22uF sounds really really big! Is this for an active high pass, or do you have other caps in series? I would use 22uF's for testing, when I wanted to test without a crossover but still didn't trust my test signals to avoid killing my tweeter. For that purpose, the Mundorf MKP's work great, and are cheap. No reason to go higher quality for testing. I'd get a pair of 10uF caps and leave them for later projects. 🙂

If you are really talking about a permanent 22uF tweeter high pass filter, I personally prefer Clarity MR over Mundorfs, odd since I'm using a Mundorf tweeter. 🙂 especially when bypassed with copper foil caps. Tip: Clarity caps tend to run exactly 1% under spec, so by adding 1% in a bypass cap you reach your exact uF requirement.

Bypassed at about a 100:1 ratio the Clarity MR are very natural sounding with some silky midranges and highs. That is, for a 22uF cap, bypass with 0.22uF cap. Also, breakdown cap values over 5uF or so. For instance, for 22uF I would do 2 x 10uF, 1 x 2uF caps, or something similar for any cap over around 4-5uF.

To bypass a 10uF or higher value capacitor, I really like the Audyn True Copper capacitors ($25 for 0.22uF) since they only go down to 0.1uF. Below that, the Jensen Copper Foil PIO line is very cost effective, or you can try the Duelund 400V RS caps, but others like to add some of the Mundorf magic with Supreme SIO's, but again, the smallest values can limit you.

Best,

Erik
