wesayso 🙂Can you give me one example of an animated gif avatar that wasn't annoying to look at?
You wouldn't believe the amount of discussion and development that's gone into the navigation. Suffice to say that there was a lot of wheel reinvention which probably didn't need to happen as our desires for features that are diyAudio specific clashed with limitations with what we could leverage from XenForo.
I've done a number of enterprise systems and sites, so I probably would, and if I didn't, well, that's really saying something! 🙂 Regardless I think the approach is great as you don't really know how you'll live in a house until you live in only that house, full-time. XenForo isn't without issues, of course, but they've done a pretty good job of accommodating different consumption habits with a fair UX.
Separately, so glad you folks were able to do this. Once other sites started updating I found that I browsed and participated here less and less due to the lack of a mobile experience, and the density of the pages. For the latter, I actually found that once I got used to the more modern UI I could find what interested me and consume far faster.

What is the commercial feed supposed to be? I can't tell how its sorting - first thread 3 days old, second thread 15 years old.
As an IT guy I went through several migrations myself so I have an idea of what can go wrong. Really suprised about how it went, yes here and there something is missing, but Kudo's to all the people that put their time and effort in it. Whether you like the new site or not, what hasn't been mentioned but important as well, I suppose for security reasons it was also a must to move on to a newer version. Then something that maybe already was mentioned, didn't see it though, I had a few bookmarks to the old wiki, that don't work anymore (e.g. https://www.diyaudio.com/wiki/Chapter_3:_How_to_build_with_examples) - doesn't work eiter changing it into "https://www.diyaudio.com/archive/oldwiki/Chapter_3:_How_to_build_with_examples". Will this be solved/become available again? Thank you.
I'm getting frontpage listings (threads as well as user posts, and logged in or not) with posts from random dates, like the lowest one in the screenshot which is 15 years old and hasn't been updated since. ???
Filter options for sorting order don't seem to work (and "save" is grayed out).
Within a subforum all looks OK and I can use the filter setting to change sorting order.

I see that too - all three feeds: Threads, User Posts, and Commercial.
My Threads feed is correct. Posts and Commercial are not. IIRC when we did the Alpha test, there were setting for how each of these was sorted. If only I could find that damn setting.....all three feeds: Threads, User Posts, and Commercial.
Threads is fine now, but wasn’t before. My Threads feed is correct. Posts and Commercial are not. IIRC when we did the Alpha test, there were setting for how each of these was sorted. If only I could find that damn setting.....
OK, found it. It is on the RIGHT column. You may have to click FILTERS to see it. However, it isn't working for me, nothing will change or save.
I only see the Filters button on mobile. Threads default sort order is last post date, and the other two are promotion date. I can't change them either, though it's the default that should be changed in the CMS.
We don't need every broken link, just one of each genre of broken-ness. Please post them in the dedicated issue thread and we'll deal with each type as they are added. Thanks!Hi Jason,
it is almost impossible to post every broken link, only in this one post https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/10f-8424-rs225-8-fast-waw-ref-monitor.273524/post-4306110 there are 43 of them, and the thread has 170+ pages, with many many links.
Thanks Barry. The upgrade to the new software was impressive. I'm a retired IT worker and pulling off a big transition like this is HARD. The fact the board came back on line pretty near completely intact shows how much time and effort the team put into the project. I'm impressed.
Yes, they will. As mentioned we launched earlier and less perfect than I would have liked, but there was great merit in getting the migration over and done with. Now we are on a stable platform and can improve iteratively from here.Sure, there are some things that are different enough to annoy. Some will be fixed/updated in the next few weeks and others I'll just get used to. Change is often painful.
The old place sent a new message, if you were subscribed to instant notifications, only once, until you visited the site again and then the "only once" was reset. If you clicked refresh constantly you'd always get every post, but if you went away from the site you'd get only one, in order to not flood you with mail. The old board was setup to send out an email when one of your watched threads had a new message. It was only supposed to do that once with the understanding there may be other new messages since the email was sent. Unfortunately quite often there would be an email for every new message in a thread. Or not. There wasn't any rhyme or reason to it but sometimes there would be an avalanche of emails from the same thread. I never mentioned it as you were going to install new software.
That odd behavior seems to be gone with the new software. So that's a very big positive for the upgrade.
There seems to be a problem with the current site mailing you about your subscribed (now called "watched") threads, and there is a ticket raised for that. It looks like only new threads are being notified and there was a problem with importing watched threads. We'll get that fixed.
This is currently incorrectly labelled, it should be something like "all, non-commercial, commercial" but the labelling we had didn't make it over. What is the commercial feed supposed to be? I can't tell how its sorting - first thread 3 days old, second thread 15 years old.

As for the age thing, this may be the same issue as "all" not showing recent threads either and using some other algo. Issue ticket: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...not-always-showing-latest-posts.380507/unread
I see in email notification of subscribed thread that pictures are displayed and in general more of the post that triggered the notification. This is new and might be a little to much for a sneaky mobile phone subscription - or an other way to look upon it is that we can save some energy by not transferring "unnecessary" data... 🙂
I vote for just basic notifications.

Figured out that on desktop, Filters is accessible only if you've side bar enabled.
Where did you find that? I'll have to go looking again.side bar enabled
