Hi Chris I was thinking about your statement about all music being in the past so to speak (time travel?), by definition is correct since it's a recording, but my drift was more towards mentions of others about the staples of 'weed' music, like PF and a couple of others , IMO the safe choices from the days of my (our) 1st forays into HiFi recordings and /or substances. I don't consider you or Charles Darwin stunted by any means, based from your interaction in the music part of the forum.

I often do (not so much on this thread), but not much reaction. People are very stuck on big names and electronic stuff and I'm admittedly an acoustic guy who prefers stuff out of the mainstream. Fortunately, there's no shortage of terrific players cranking out great music, and that's the excuse my wife and I have for getting out to concerts on a very frequent basis. We were just at the Nelson Odeon in upstate New York (great venue!), and Cafe Carpe in rural Wisconsin is our regular hangout.

I was pondering this thread, and realized that quite a few of us had our weed and music period "back then". While I listen to quite a bit of new music, I can't definitively state how it will sound with a head full of chemical amusement aids. Don't go there anymore. I can guess...Sy, per my previous post, check out "The Greencards" "Sweetheart of the Sun." You can probably find some online. Earlier Greencards was bluegrass, this latest one is singer/songwriter/acoustic instrument chops/well crafted stuff. It's highly listenable.

my listening of more current musical artists would be if you had to classify it 'Americana by way of post punk sensibilities. Neko Case, Calexico , Majove 3, Sparklehorse , Eels, Nick Cave , Giant Sand , Beck , Lucinda Williams, Natalie Merchant , The Handsome Family, Lambchop , Bill Frisell, and of course, also SY's all time favorite Neil Young.

My favorite singer/songwriter duo is Dave Carter/Tracy Grammer. The albums "Drum Hat Buddha" and "Tanglewood Tree" are desert island albums. Dave Carter died young (heart attack after his morning run), but the music he produced with Tracy is fantastic. My favorite lyricist, his ability to turn a phrase, such as "a thorn by any other name draws blood", rewards attention to the lyrics. "41 Thunderer" is a tune my wife and I sing along with, (both of us know all the lyrics). "Gentle Soldier of my Soul" played at our wedding 10 years ago. Not new, but not "70's/
80's".

KC does have a thriving music scene, but I don't venture out into it because of family health issues... thankful for recordings and the equipment to play them! Making arrangements to attend the Walnut Valley Flatpicking Championships, or the Winfield Kansas Bluegrass Festival, whichever one prefers to call it. I have been introduced to a lot of great music there, over the years!

Also, look for Redbird (they're sort of a supergroup, with Mulvey, Jeff Foucault, Kris Delmhorst, and David Goodrich). Trust me on that. Their eponymous album is a stellar recording. I already ordered a couple of Greencards CDs, for which my thanks- I didn't know them before.

If you're ever up in Chicago/Milwaukee, you have an open invite at our place for swapping tunes.

Damn, I finally broke something. My left ear is ******. Stoned out of my mind and listening to headphones - bad idea!!!! Three days with ringing, this **** doesn't go away. This wasn't my idea of living with a permanent buzz.

This is terrible news (no matter how much I joke about it) and I'm slightly depressed. If there's something I can't stand is a body not functioning perfectly. Decay is for others, not for ME!!!!!

Hmmmm, maybe this hybris of mine should be tempered, maybe it's the cause of all of my troubles. Or maybe I'm chickening out because of this....

I always suspected that reviewers in audio mags sometimes take some more or less legal substances before they review a product. Or at least before they begin typing the articles ......... 😉
