tf1216,
Terry is correct. that was a Spkr. Protection board. It is not needed, but wanted to test it out.
It works as advertised. Terry is also correct on the Input Shielded cable & grounding.
Terry,
As for the SMPS's, they seem to be very touchy in my opinion. One of them sort of works, but as soon as you put a load on it, it Pumps in 1/4 sec between +-20 to +- 45 continuously. one has a visible blown smd part & the 3rd Just doesn't power up anymore.
the onboard fuse is good. So i think for now i will give up on these. Getting Expensive! i obviously do NOT have the TOUCH when it comes to SMPS.

Jason,
Here is what it will eventually look like. This is a previous PMI VSSA build with an Alu top, Then with the Smoked Acrylic Top. Sorry i didn't take many Pics of the Acrylic top. My Brother in law is it's proud owner now.

Rick, I powered up using the SMPS and all seemed good initially. For some reason it has begun to emit noises and nor I'm not sure if I want to leave it in place. I'm looking at some others on the market but they are a substantial jump up in price. I'm willing to pay more for a higher quality unit, but I want something that has the backing to support it properly. Have you looked at any others? I'm looking into the Hypex and Coldamp units. I put up a thread for recommendations in the Power Supplies forum so maybe someone will have some others to look into as well.

I Used a Coldamp for powering a class A/AB amp. Still in service today (5 years after) at a friend. No noises and such, just very good and clean sound.
I admit it's very expensive, but that's what I would use again for sure.

Hi Rick,
Ref post #335
It's always difficult to see the wiring from photos but it looks to me your safety earth is going to SMPS NOT the chassis.
I would not run the input screen to the output ground. IMHO it's best to isolate high current and low current wiring.
I was surprised not to see a ground wire running to the speaker protection board. I suppose the thin red and black are power for the relay and the black wire is ground?
regards
Hi Greg,
Yes, i had fixed the Safety earth Gnd. As for the relay board, that was just a quick test to see if it worked at all & was taken out. I now have a proper Star Gnd, and have the input screen run to it. Of course i am also using a trafo now as well.
Jason,
Yes, i also looked at some of the alternatives, but as you said, They are a LOT more $$.
I also noted the 'sizzle' noise from the smps as well as thru my speakers at close range with nothing playing. So i guess if i am going to use an SMPS in my future i will have to choose one. i think i would Try the Cold Amp, or one of AP2's 500-DA.

I can send you some of those spades and a suitable connector for the input
what's making noise? The amp or PSU?
It is the PSU making the noise. Sounds like sizzling or a small leak of gas under pressure with the occasional chirp or squeal. I don't feel comfortable with how it is behaving so I likely won't be using this unit.
After looking at the terms of service I likely won't buy more. I'm still interested in going SMPS but will do more research and hopefully make a better choice next time. As it stands now I have likely thrown away $100+ dollars after shipping. Guess there is a reason the others on the market cost 2-3 times as much 🙄.
Gooniman,
you could also use these 2 position term block connector,5mm LS
mouser p/n 571-1-282836-2
Digikey p/n A980976-ND

First attemp
Build update.
The passed few days I study all the photos and I reread the entire forum again.
Watch some videos on how to solder.
The results are better than my first try.
Check post 323 and compare.
All feedback are welcome.
Jason thanks for the encouraging words.

Gooniman,
Looking Good.! Now when you are done all the soldering, you need to clean up the flux left behind. This stuff makes it a quick chore.
Amazon.com: Trichloroethylene High Purity Solvent 4oz (120ml): Home Improvement
Or you can try Alcohol, the 99% pure type.
