Hi LC,

I passed these two day with VSSA every time i could, to play one CD behind an another. The Magic is still here with VSSA....The little things boring me is that qith my +/-35Vdc psu the power deliver seems to be little to the downside with my speaker...So the could be to build new speaker with greater sensitivity or if there is any chance to convert VSSA 1.4 to +/-50Vdc (Rcore i have in stock) with for sure swap BC550-560 to 2sc2240bl-2sa970bl, but have no idea to what would other changes need. In my mind Alf16NP would late place to Ald double die...

Hi Marc

You can go to +/-45 V PSU at any time without modifications. Extra +/-10 V headroom will bring that needed power to your nice speakers.

For a safe +/-50 V operationality you would need to replace BC-s with 60 V low noise BJTs (same pinout) and replace R7, R8 with 10 k, 1206 resistors. 😉

Sound of six transistors only is revealing and their musical presentation is very involving, magic will not dissapear, no worries. :cloud9:

Pin out won't be in issue as the idea is to convert my alf16NP 1.4 layout to a Alf16N16/alf16P16 layout. If BC546/556 are used no issue with use of B grade since C grade are totally obsolet?

Concern R7 and R8 : there is only value on 1.4 schematic no parts numerotation.

Do recommended caps and inrush limiter changes on SMPS modules apply both the same for hypex and connex modules? Felt comfortable with +-35V rails, wonder if I would benefit raising them. Hypex has +-46V while Connex +-45V.

Siberia, to go for +-45V, you need to change the resistors at R19, R20 as recommended by LC. For my set, I am using connex SMPS500R +-45V. It has been running fine on my VSSA since last Thursday. I only changed the output cap from teapo LH 63V 4700uf to panasonic 71V 6800uf. The rest was remained the same as provided.

As for inrush, it is controlled by NTC. I find that soft start period is OK for me so I didn't touch on it. If you want to install external soft start, just short the NTC.

HYPEX is official recommended power supply and has more features on it. You can refer to post 1091 for the recommended caps and SQ reviewed by LC. 😀
