Thinking about it further it may be that the simple 1st
order filter doesn't act fast enough - i.e. you need a
higher slope - a 2nd order filter - in this case the
resistor may be needed in parrallel with the capacitor.

Such conjectures give you nightmares without measuring equipment !

I'd expect strong rounding of a narrow cabinets edges
to make the BSD slope shallower for example !

You are quite right nothing should be discounted until considered.

Mine did - took a while to make & the xover was over 3 months worth of trial & error.
Specs Bass Vifa m18wo-09-08 (2 in parallel) sealed box of about 28l, two compartments - upper bass in 12l lower in 16l. Mid Audax Pr170zo, High Fostex FT33rp (older version). Separate sealed box fro mid/high.
Sound is very good, great imaging & presence. Piano really fills the room (dual subs help as well). The Vifas are very inefficient, my target sensitivity started out at 92db (tweeter level) & ended up at 88db (thats with dual woofers!). If I were to do it again I would use Peerless 8" woofers.
Will do a proper write up & website one day - happy listening!
