IF 'they' are here.....they must have come from somewhere pretty far away. That means centuries in transit OR they've found away around the speed of light limit. In either case, such travel can NOT be so expensive as to bankrupt the culture. It IS possible that they are on a one-way trip...to ????
At the limits of our current technology? Modern jet aircraft cost in the hundreds of Million $ range. F22 goes north of 300 million each. Do the math IF the military had gotten all 700 they'd originally wanted.
Also the cost of something is not "static". For example, an automobile 100 years ago would have cost a fortune, but due to advance in technology, things become cheaper.
A more recent example is a computer. Computation power is so cheap now compared to many years ago.
An open mind, is one that's open to new information. Such new new info. may, or may not show up, or, if it does, may not pass critical analysis. But an open mind fairly gives it that chance. It does not mean the blind acceptance of all new notions.
A closed mind assumes that it is already in possession of all relevant facts, so, does not need to hear and fairly evaluate any new information. Or, won't risk the possibility that what it currently believes to be factual, is not.
I think that's spot on. People are creatures of habit, not only in our actions but in how we think. You really have to be in a unique situation to break the bounds of those habits. We're a bit like lemmings in a lot of ways but we'll all be damned if anyone tries to call us a lemming. I think many times throughout history there have been people who broke those constraints of thought but they have been few and far between. It's not easy to do and most people just follow the group think. Many people who have broken those constraints had some traumatic experiences that led them there. I'm not talking about traumatic experiences that directly led to the insight, but instead traumatic experiences that taught them how much in error the "group" logic of people can actually be. This does not mean that everyone who has a traumatic experience has it lead to useful insights later. Many of those people just go a bit nutty with their ideas.
I would say more that alienating circumstances early in life is a necessary but NOT SUFFICIENT condition for great leaps forward in thought.
We already did gorillaAs long as they don't go human clubbing... like some humans go seal clubbing...
It was an accurate recounting of the facts in evidence. If it's also a protest, so be it.You doth protest too much - given your record here of non-neutrality on the subject.
A 1921 Model T sold for US$490, less than $7000 in 2021 dollars. Also the cost of something is not "static". For example, an automobile 100 years ago would have cost a fortune, but due to advance in technology, things become cheaper.

But the price drop on computing power is very true.
But cars today come with A LOT more features, i.e. air conditioner, safety features, more power, better braking...etc. It would be more objective to compare just horse power if computing power is being compared.A 1921 Model T sold for US$490, less than $7000 in 2021 dollars.
A lot more people could afford a basic car today compared to 100 years ago. In 1920, the Internal Revenue Service reports, the average income was $3,269.40 per year as of Dec 30, 2018 but I suspect that didn't take into account a large part of the color people.

There was a time when I leaned toward "other worldly" explanations for the UFO phenomenon. Now I lean toward "worldly" explanations. I could revert back, if I was confronted with the information required to do so. That's as "neutral" as I can be.
Bigun , that's a good observation. UFO's should be seen from the space station as it is manned 24/7.
Very good point. From that vantage point they should be IFOs. At least identifiably space craft.
Does anyone have any comment about the videos which are seen from any number of sources in which an 'unknown' make right angle turns at very high speeds? Or in other cases disappears INTO the ocean?
USOs (Unidentified Submerged Objects) are a real part of this debate.
Such high speed objects have ALSO been tracked on Radar, even as far back as the 1950s Washington DC Flap....

It's not only the US. The Russians and Chinese are seeing the same thing.
The US may have won the arm race, but might loose out the UFO race if it's not careful 🙂

Somewhere on the 'net there's an interesting video taken aboard a diving craft scanning the ocean floor.
Apparently, they came across a strange craft down there and took footage of it.
It does appear to be some sort of unknown object, and the person filming it states that it must be some kind of UFO that sank at one time.

Unless someone comes up with something new that I've never heard before, this is probably my last contribution to this thread.
I've been following this issue since I was in 6th grade and my parents bought me a book......'Flying Saucers Have Landed' by George Adamski and one other.
Adamski was one of th original 'contactees' and would be fringe even today.
My last thought? IF they are here, than HOW. Our physics knows no way to get from 'here' to 'there' at speeds which would make it possible.....no matter how impractical.
Also? WHY? I don't think it matters much if they are real. They will NOT show themselves to our planet...a group of Tribal Primatives ruled by the Lizard part of the brain....such as it is.
The CHAOS which would ensue would be epic, at the very least. And just Name your poison. Religious? Territorial? Technological? Any one of a hundred things would set off a conflict. Jealousy at NOT being included in the talks. Somebody would KNOW (and probably be right) that they were being held out on.
I can see that, as well intentioned as most here are, that this thread is going in a fairly small circle.
Might want to consider Joining MUFON......

To make a UFO start with a light weight plastic bag, like the ones often used by cleaners over a load of clothes. Seal off the top holes. Vinyl heat sealer is best. Put as light a gondola at the bottom with 50 to 100 of the tiny birthday candles. Inflate the bag carefully so as not not melt it with a hot air gun. Then light the candles and let it go. Obviously nighttime is best.
Now compare the reports of your UFO with other reports of incidents.
Best day to do this is April first. That way if you screw up and get caught, less likelihood of legal problems.

I somewhere heard about using helium to inflate a life-size sex doll that floated over some city. 😎
We once did a fake ufo, when I was a yoof - helium, lots of leds, careful use of fishing lines to control.
The descriptions of what people saw, vs what had actually happened, was a real eye opener! People are very poor witnesses, quite often!

While this question has been addressed earlier in the thread, it bears readdressing. The question of HOW, is, to me, the one most relevant. It should not be controversial, that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe. The only controversial question should only be whether they could be visiting us here. Miguel Alcubierre showed that it is theoretically possible to travel at an arbitrarily high velocity, at many many times the speed of light, without violating Einstein's theories. It is not be practical to do, as far as WE can ascertain. Which does not mean that another civilization, perhaps, multiple thousands of years ahead of us, has not made it practical.
Also? WHY? I don't think it matters much if they are real. They will NOT show themselves to our planet...a group of Tribal Primatives ruled by the Lizard part of the brain....such as it is.
A life-filled garden planet, one which includes a relatively primitive, yet space faring civilization of 7 billion intelligent beings as yet unaware that they are not alone. Struggling as a species to overcome the the reptilian part of their brains, and evolve ethically. This situation would seem likely to be of high interest and drama to a more advanced civilization. Depending on the agenda of such possible aliens, which could span from malevolent to benevolent. It does seem that the least likely alien agenda, would be one of indifference toward this planet.
The CHAOS which would ensue would be epic, at the very least. And just Name your poison. Religious? Territorial? Technological? Any one of a hundred things would set off a conflict. Jealousy at NOT being included in the talks. Somebody would KNOW (and probably be right) that they were being held out on.
This is the concern which benevolent alien visitors would largely have, should they actually exist. A concern which I would share, and which is the most obvious motivation for governments to continue to lie about the whole subject.

I disagree. The simple fact that there is sustained discussion, fully open-minded or not, is positive. There is less laughing ridicule and simple dismissal, than there is serious debating the positions.
Of COURSE we are 'not alone' and the only intelligent life in the universe.
And yes, HOW is, to me, of top importance. What has human physics missed?
These kinds of threads always devolve into the 2 major tribes...with sub-tribes tossed in for good measure.
I don't see much 'leverage' with this, since I rarely see any new information or opinion.
