And at the higher end of the audio market, anything approaching "flat response" - whether or not you consider that essential to enjoyment - is not as much a priority as the status attached to the prestige brand names. But hey, some folks love to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a watch, and that's a case where there's no doubt that your $50 drug store product keeps time as accurately as most human beings could ever need.

Well, after looking at too many charts I've become even more cynical. The high-end speakers touted as being most neutral are actually hearing-aids for the nearly deaf say I, at least in the US.

I think the Germans and Nordic countries take good speakers far more seriously to allow that to happen.
