I've been running Koifarm's proto for a year now and it's just so nice. Really takes the edge off the class D for some very used ears on class A/B !
Hi, congratulations on your amazing build. I'm curious, does it get to sound natural? I'm considering this buffer and amp, have audiotioned hybrid amplifiers and some AB but none convinced me, although I liked them. Earlier this year I bought a Hypex NC122MP based power amplifier but it sounds dry and cold. I want to give Purifi a chance and I see there are commercial integrators like atm-audio and VTV that make tube buffers for Purifi, but they are quite expensive.

I am interested in your opinion as you know A/B well and built this buffer. I liked the newest Musical Fidelity A1 integrated amp, which is class A into B, sounded very natural but it can't move my speakers and doesn't have body and enough bass. I liked a hybrid Unison Research Unico Primo, natural and body but it had a bit too much harmonics and a bit congested and rolled off in the highs.

My Hypex NC122MP moves my speakers ok, detailed and neutral but it sounds very clinical and dry, as if 'filtered', it is almost unlistenable to me. I guess Purifi may sound in this vein. But can the tubes really take the edge off and give the naturalness of A/B? If so, I'm ready for this build. Thanks.

By the way, how do you take power for the tubes? I think koifarm said it takes two 12V 3A external DC, and on the picture I see both 12V green sockets empty.

hi wyup,
I’m a big fan of Bryston amps use a 4Bsst.
The hypex amps are too cold for me but got a NC500 on bass that works great in an active system.
The Purifi 400 is even better and when you use koifarm’s valve input it is amazing on full range speakers ! Lot’s of clarity and presence. The bass is amazing too. Even better than the Bryston.
It was a revelation having such details on full range.
Now on my active system, I still use A/B for the tweeters.
Built some Ice 1200 and it’s not the same as the 400 or the nc 500 …
Koifarm’s buffer is the way. And If I new more about it I would make it even more less transparent 🤣

Long time reader, first time contributor here. Started to follow this thread a while back when I settled on the Purifi as my next amp project. Big fan of tubes too so that's how I ended up here. Just this evening I had my first play test of Koifarm's PCB. Wow. The donor amp I got the Purifi boards from had Neurochrome buffers which sounded great. The 6n6ps however take it to the next level in terms of soundstage, separation and dynamics.

It's a shame Koi left the forum and even more of a shame if you understand the reasons why. The gatekeeping is ruining this hobby for too many people. I encourage everyone to keep experimenting and holding on to what you love and like the sound of.

Next steps are to further design an enclosure for this amp. Plans are to include my Denafrips Ares II DAC into it as well for a nice integrated single box 🙂

Thanks to all and Koifarm in particular for making this a really educational journey so far. There will be much more to learn I'm sure.

Nice project Jasperd84. In my case I have all of the parts but haven't had a chance to finish it due to no-stop moving of our household. I have one more move that should be completed by end of month and then I can get serious about again. I have both the Hypex and Purify amp modules on hand. I plan to build and explore each of Koifarm's inventions. yea, it is really annoying that Koifarm is gone. It is too easy to forget that we are doing this because it is fun, and we do it on a public forum because we want to share our pleasure and learn from others.

Please share more.

Thanks Carl_Huff! Will share more as the project progresses.
Not sure how relevant your question regarding the Takamisawa relay still is, but wanted to let you know that I found plenty for cheap on Aliexpress, some with free shipping to the US. So cheap in fact that it makes me doubt whether they're legit or knock-offs... Works just fine though.
