Thomas,
If you are asking if anyone is interested in an ad1865 dac you can put me down for sure. I have wanted a dac based on this chip for some time 😀

Put me down for one also, and I have a pair of ad1865 chips so now you can make 9.

I would rather not have an output stage on the dac board if possible.

hi stone,

let me funish the non-profit 1541a project first,

the signal selection board & power supply will fit all the coming ultimate ver.3, parallel 1541a V.4, parallel 1865 & coming 20bits.

All the dac will funish products.

this will less some money for diyers.

I will keep forward the detail of ad1865 condition to U, pls wait a bit.

thx

thomas

Step by Step Instructions for Beginner?

Does anyone have step-by-step hookup instructions for the v2 Dac? I want to hookup the dac/receiver pcb to the tube buffer (the tube buffer is already built), the transformers and iec, etc. I have Thomas's stock chassis.

Don't intend to hookup the op-amp output board nor reclocker at this time. I can read the schematic but don't know proper sequence of wire connections. Assistance much appreciated! Thanks, Mike javascript:smilie(':smash:')

Help with Transformer Wiring

I would appreciate guidance on how to hook up the three transformers!

I have pdf'd a picture (see below) of the three transformers that show the number and color of each wire. I have numbered the wires.

I am in USA using 120 volt. I want to hookup the tube stage, but not the op-amp stage.

Could someone please assist in guiding me where to terminate each wire....which pcb, iec, chassis ground, etc.

Any help greatly appreciated

🙂

Each trans has 2 primary winding. If you have 120V power you will only need one primary (1 red and 1 brown). As each trans has 2 red and 2 brown you 'll need a multimetter to check which red goes with which brown then select one pair of red and brown to connect to main socket.

Black wire is for earth connection.

8, 10 and 9 (18-0-18VAC) should be connected to SK1 on the DAC board. Attention, 10 should be connected to center point of SK1.

16, 18 and 17 (230-0-230VAC) should be connected to J12 of the tube buffer. Attention, 18 should be connected to center point of J12.

6 and 7 (6.3VAC) should be connected to J13 of the tube buffer

24 and 25 (9VAC) should be connected to J14 of the tube buffer

Be careful, I recommend that you connect the trans to the main socket first and use a volmetter to check the secondary voltage to see if the voltage is correct. If everything is ok then connect to the PCB.

Some of these trans and the tube buffer have high voltage and can be dangerous if not properly handled. Please be very careful. The above information is for reference only. I can't take responsibility if anything went wrong.

Thank you Quan Tran

Quan Tran, Thank you very much! I was able to read your directions, look at the pcb schematic and the photo you posted of your dac. All makes sense now. I do plan to read up on safety precautions prior to starting the project. Thanks kindly.

sec was the dac use transformer couple to op-amp to output. I was waiting for the output ransformers.

thx
