The board is from http://www.dddac.de/ nice and easy, he sells the 12MHz Tent Clock as well.
The real star is that TDA1541A kit, it performs really well, and you can use whatever output stage you like. Sounds great with the CS input rx chip, but better with I2S direct, neat thing with the DAC kit is that their are direct I2S solder points, so you just remove 2 resistors to disable the SPDIF input receiver and away you go.
Hope this helps.

Sceglar, is the usb board bus powered? Also how much did it cost you to complete your dac? I emailed Thomas a few days ago asking the price for a kit with a chassis but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. This seems like a real exciting project. Thanks
nope its not bus powered, actually comes with a really good PS on board, super good in fact, its done right.
Ask Thomas the price, I bought this one 6mnths ago.

I'll send Thomas another email asking about the price for a kit with chassis. Can you go into more detail on how you wired the power to the usb board? Thanks
I hope Thomas is busy organizing/finalizing the V.3 of the kit...
The mish-mash of (undoubtedly impressive) iron upgrades from digital and tube section, + tube schema variants are quite confusing... I'm also anxious to know the details, options, plus the final pricing w/ an enclosure.

Wow. that is super cool. Where did you get the board and how did you wire it? I really am interested in ordering Thomas's kit with a chassis and use a interface usb to i2s board like you have done. Does anyone know how much Thomas's kit is with a chassis?
What power book is that ? Is that a macbook Pro ?
defec,
getting power to the USB board is really simple, there is a solder pad on the PCB which provides regulated +18V
jleaman,
Its a G4 powerbook, no 'intel' inside 🙂

That is what i thought because i can see a s-video and FW800 port 🙂
Hows the dac and the mac working out with the mac good bad ?
Thomas,
I'm quite lost in this long thread but I noticed that you were offering some nice output transformers 5K:600 Ohms, are these for sale? how much for each?
I'm interested on a pair 🙂

Output impedence of Twin TDA1541a
Hi I'm interested in getthing this DAC (in addition to another DIY DAC), but I need to know the output impedence of the Twin TDA1541a DAC, for both the tube buffer and opamp output stage. I'm using a 10k passive volume attenuator that is built into my tube amp which has imput impedence of 100k. I heard that some DACs, especially those with tube outputs, may have difficulty with 10k load of the passive attenuator. I do have the option of replacing it with was 50k attenuator. Anyone help me out? Thomas?

Re: Output impedence of Twin TDA1541a
I run this dac with a passive pre-amp and it works ok, not enough to turn it up tho.
Using the tube buffer just kills the sound and it just in simple terms does not work well. Your best bet is to find another dac as this one with the tube buffer does not work well.
Maybe look at this dac >>> http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=894543#post894543

Hi all,
I was back because so so busy recently. I go to china north side for one trip for a dream coursethat construction the drean primary school to the village children. The communiction & transportation also not good. I only call my brother help me to answer some emails.
very sorry to late reply.
let me answer step by step for the questions.
Hi quantran, very thanks to help me to answer the question when I was not here.
Hi jleaman,
not need to worry about the voltage, when U loading with the tubes(EZ80), the voltage will drop back into the regular voltage. I test already.
Secondary. Pls series connect the 82 ohm follow with the dac & the op-amp. otherwise change the value can adjust the level of the sound. Pls try to do. I was back, can answer U quickly.
Pls see some of the photos. The dac & all the product coming will low in price. since I arrange a small prodution team in china, Or I said help some poor people to earn money in the small factory but the salary ( labour cost) now will be low. I can use low cost to develope the products.
When I back to hong Kong. I saw some of the emails that said although the maimatching of the dac cause some of the problem. So I will run back to single chips.
When I was on china. Some of the electric sales told me that will very easy to change the standard 1541a to double crown, only cause USD 100 for the sample. I was very interest for this. so I buy the sample/. The sample was a imprint word that can erase the old word of the chips by sandy machine & re-print for them. I will post to forum later Pls Pls Pls. don't buy any stated double or single crown chips in china or from china seller. This is high risk.
I was testing the sample of the pre-amp OPT for the 6c45/417a tubes. 5K:600ohm.
The test result as about.
thx

Need your help Thomas
Thomas,
Did you read my earlier thread? Will your DAC work OK in my setup?
jleaman, thanks. But I'm wondering if the your passive volume pot/attenuater impedence is affecting the sound of the tube buffer output.

MGH,
Output impedance of the 6DJ8 SRPP tube buffer should be less than 100 ohms. The plate loaded 6C45 will be closer to the Rp of the tube (900 ohms?).
Either should drive the 10k load with no problems, but especially with the 6DJ8 in SRPP, the impedance ratio will be on the right side of 1:100, which is ten times better than what is usually considered marginal

It's really not the dac i'm having problems with its the buffer. It won't work in any configuration i use it in. I have tried many ways i have even signed up on the forum that sold these and they could not figure it out. I was told it was a design flaw. I don't know what i'll do maybe build a different tube buffer for it and try it. It defiantly needs some kinda buffer tho.
