UGS-muse preamp GB

Hello @Alex_twn ,

Yeah.. about the panels… I was forced to learn Autocad to be able to draw them but now I am very thankful to you because if there wasn’t the preamp that I wanted so much I would have never learned Autocad and other things.
So thanks again!

I kept thinking this period from where my issue with the memory could come.
I had installed 2.993 first of installing 2.994 and I did clear the memory first of the fw update.
Do you think it’s worth installing 2.993 again and clear once more the memory settings and then install again 2.994?

I have uploaded 2.993 and with that version the relay that shorts the negative input to gnd(single ended relay) is not going on when you first power up the preamp and leave it in standby, in 2.994 it goes on. In 2.994 after you power on and off again the preamp the led goes off.

I didn’t go ahead with the settings to see if I can replicate the earlier issue with the strange character for the output name

In 2.993 I can’t enter the menu because I have only the push buttons.

Edit: my iron pre(UGT) pcbs have some leds that are in paralel with the single ended relay I mentioned above from the ugs main board and this helped me to see this issue else is very difficult.

Ciao Alex,

Actually is not solved 🙁

Last night I got the same issue again. Moving the encoder connector looks that something happen but again is random.
Touching/pushing the connector some time the sound is back but some time is not.

A weak encoder connection (or a broken encoder) can generate this isuue or I am in the wrong path?

Cheers,
Enrico

My guess is if the encoder mutes the signal you would see it on the display and normally does the same thing for both channels.

Yes schultzsch, the mute is working properly, blinking in the display and mute both channel but it's a different command from the encoder push button.
My problem is different, the display doesn't change and the mute happen in the RIGHT channel only

I was trying to isolate the problem and point out that I don’t think you have an encoder issue. And this not because of I want to point out you have a similar issue with what I found.

You have the issue present as soon as the components start to heat up and when they are already hot and never when cold so this could indicate a hw issue!

It could be the isolator or a bad solder joint, this is my guess!

Like I said, check the signals from the mcu to the muse chip and see what happens when your channel ’dies’. Check first and after the isolator. If you could monitor the clock signal for both channels would be great.

Also checking the power supplies in the moment of the fault would be something to start with.

Thanks schultzsch... I can foresee a very busy January 1st 🙂

I will do some measurement even if I am still convinced that the issue is in the MCU board. When I swap P2 and P6 in the MCU to the preampli boards the problem show up in the LEFT side.

In the PCB, from the MCU chip to the P2 and P6 there is almost nothing... I rewelded the connectors and the MCU pins that was anyway fine.

Did you managed to swap also the wires between the boards?
Did you crimp the wires to the contact terminals or soldered them?
If crimped with a too small contact dimension the wire will strip inside the isolation.

I managed to setup the entire preamp after uploading 2.994 again and the strange character and no output issue are gone now.
It still remains the issue with the single ended relay.

This is nice question. I didn’t think to swap also in the board side. With the P2 and P6 swaped the problem go to the left side. If swapping also the board side move back to the right side mean that is the MCU, otherwise is the cable between the 2 boards, even if I doubt.
Really good idea, thanks

Are all soldered...

As I said I will be very busy this weekend.

Just a question, I don’t remember how to erase completely the MCU. Last night I just overwrite the actual fw. Probably the problem is not there but is worth to try

Hi schultzsch and All,

Beleive or not I don't have any more issue on my UGS. I was ready with scope and everything was setup to catch the problem in real time when show up but no one glitch since January 1st and I am playing music at least for 3 hours every day.

I don't know what to say... last night I dismounted the "surgery room" and I close up again the UGS.

The issue is not solved anyway, so my feeling is that one day will show up again, I will let you know

Cheers,
Enrico

Hi guys.
I have a big problem.
due to stupidity i managed to destroy my uC-board.
Now I am in the need of a new one.
Can anybody help out?
@Alex_twn: Please can you help me out with the problem?
I can order the PCB directly or we can arrangeanything needed...
BIG PLEASE from me

thank you in advance.

greetings from VIenna.

Thanks as I couldn't remember what the old tool was called.
Is there a compelling reason for using the dual encoder? The 2nd one takes the place of the buttons for navigating menus? I presume this is supported on the existing uC board?
I'm not a fan of rotary encoders, preferring the feel of pots over them, but I guess sometimes you have to use them. It is my least favorite part of my Pass Aleph P pre.
