My big Audax speakers used red cedar for many years with no problems of cracking. The only problem I can see is the fact that all the woodwork is done, and you won't get that wonderful smell from planing and cutting it. 🙂
Bernie may not like biscuits for joining/alignment, but that isn't a universally held opinion. They have some slop aling the length of the slot, but very little across the width. They allow the assembler to get everything aligned without having ultra precision in one's cuts.
I am certainly not a cabinet-maker or anything like that but offer some food for thought regarding the cabinet joinery dilemma. Would lock-mitered joints be at all feasible for a design such as this?
Frank

well in the case of any parts cut by Bernie, the precision is built in
If your biscuit cutter cuts slots with a sloppy fit, you need a new blade, (or biscuit cutter). 🙂

I would think that all sides of each panel would need to be sealed with something prior to 1) adding the Ultratouch and 2) assembly, in order to minimize expansion/contraction with humidity/temperature.
Or is cedar not as prone to such things?
Regardless, VERY nice looking cabinets. I can easily imagine the aromatherapy and pest-control benefits... 😀

nitro actually likely ML Campbell WW HP pre catalyzed 15% (dull) 3 or 4 coats - no doubt there are other / maybe "better" or "correct" finishes, but I'm just not a fan of any of the oil / wax combinations I've used over the years, and this (NC lacquer) is the lazy habit into which I've fallen
Lol so I got first dip? Double Awesome 😀
John,
You might be behind Ced, but consider it done.... now we just need to work thru all the testing & detail.

Any updates on timing? Looks like I may be leaving the country early to mid August. Any desire to ship to China? 🙂
