LC meter not yet arrived, nor the MPP cores from CWS.
I found that Jantzen has 11uH copper foil coils ready made. I ordered a couple from the italian ratailer that, that's Italy, on August is closed 🙄.

Here you can download ARTA. It consist of 3 audio measurement programs for use wth a soundcard.. One of them is called “Limp”. It is actually indented to measure loudspeaker impedance and TS parameters but it is also pretty good at measuring inductance and capacitance. It has even a nice feature to readout the inductance/capacitance value and properly set-up and calibrated it is quite accurate.
In demo mode it is full functioning but you can’t save to a file. However you can copy the result screens to the clipboard and save them with a photo editor.
For measuring low inductance, the resonant method with a known C is even more accurate.

Thanks for the link! Now I have a lot to learn to use the software.
I installed it on my "sound server" (it is a diy fan less PC with IR remote and E-mu 1212M sound card in Xp OS) but Arta doesn't see the card, because the 1212M bypasses the OS.
Tomorrow I'll try something, otherwise I use the SB live I have in this PC

It is best to select the soundcard drivers in de software directly and avoid using mixers. Also be sure the card is not used by other software (like XP itself).
Have had no problems with ARTA using various soundcards (unlike other RTA software).
I have made a convenient “measurement cable” for use with my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card.

The Soundblaster Live is ok, but ONLY at 48 kHz sampling rate. Any other sampling rate will give weird results because of the re-sampling it will do then..
Also disable all the sound effects of the card and avoid software feedback through the windows mixer: In the output mixer only wav must be enabled and for the input mixer only line in must be enabled, all others must be disabled.
Also use the Windows drivers and not the Creative drivers. I got best results with the Sopndblaster live with a 500 ohm – 1 Kohm measurement resistor (but not for loaudspeakers). Also use properly screened wiring to avoid noise pick-up.

I am just reading this topic and am amazed that you guys use a pc soundcard's analog output as a reference. Isn't the pc's soundcard the most poluted analog line you can imagine? If I test my soundblasters Xfi analog output and compare it to a sep. DAC output the difference is dramatic. A PC soundcard sounds flat. Or are these cards so well made?

Just trying to measure custom inductors with a sound card (the LC meter is on the way from Honk Kong). I'm experimenting 3 kind of new output filter inductors for the TA2022. If you read above, maybe you'll redo again your Amp1b 🙂 (I saw your nice thing on 41hz). Inductors have a dramatic influence on Tripath's sound.
Piotr, I get no results, maybe the reference circuit is wrong. Limp guide is not so clear about wiring the sound card.

I got this software too - I have tried to measure the iron core inductors removed from a SI which should measure 10uH
Problem is I can't find anywhere on graph below 100 ohm impedance to measure inductor as is recommended in help files

But it is worth to try. Highly interested in Bertus's coils. And why does these make such a big difference in sound quality?
1 thing I learned over the years is that power supplies are the main dictators for sound quality(apart fom the amp ofcourse and the grounding scheme).
So I am a bit sceptical that the coils would make such a difference in my setup too. I noticed when I changed the cap. values on the board trying to get rid of the whistle and tone it did not change the sound quality.

Is well known that output filter design is what make THE difference in Tripath and class-d amps. While caps, though important, produce no so big differences as output filters.
Look at this post
The T106 would be better, on paper, against bertus T94. When tried, T106 sounded just like original T80, while with bertus coils there was a dramatic improvement.
That's why it's worth to try different designs.

yep, you've got me convinced. Will find out how to make the air inductor. 11uH shouldn't be to difficult with air. Did you wind the T106's the way Bertus did? Maybe that will make a difference.

Btw, going from the 051 series PSU caps. to the 154 series from BC was an eyeopener for me not to underestimate the influence of a well designed PSU. The difference was very noticable espesc. the dynamics.

But there is more to it.
Even a single switch, fuse or a connector is limiting dynamics heavily. This you can just verify by connecting the amp directly to a battery without any switch or connector in between.
Unfortunately you have to have something in the line.
Let me quickly tell you a bit of my experience - even if this is a bit off topic.
I was running my 2020 with a 10Ah Exide Dryfit A512 battery first.
With some buffering and filtering it gave a decent sound compared to SMPS.
When I switched to Northstar 90 NSB - with ESR of 0,002R it blew me away. This battery can deliver up to 4500A short circuit current. Micro and Macro dynamics are overwhelming.
Nothing ever before gave me such a step forward in dynamics!
Back to the coils:
I am still very happy with the Mundorf Air Coils in the output of the 2020.
Everything is deadly quite - no distortions - no nothing - just clean sound.
I guess there is a good reason that the Charlize module and
the italian Audiodigit version using air coils as an upgrade option!
I am still looking forward to see what Thomas comes up with comparing the other coils.
