also betters my ICEPOWER amp by a considerable margin.

ICEPOWER 500A based monblocks with 500VA transformers, 120.000uF pr. block, Schottky 40A/250V rectifiers.

David, I have some questions regarding the ICE 500A mudules. Would you mind e-mail or send a PM and we can take it off line?

Well, I have done the same, both power- and input ground are flouting, thus neither is connected to the chassis.

You have a point, it could be the mains, but none of my other amps hum, so my best guess is the transformer. I will look into the mains and try different grounding connections before, I start shielding the transformer

I'm no oracle when it comes to ICEPOWER, but I have built a few amp, so if anyone has any questions just drop me a PM and I will give it my best shot.

I have a few snubber PSU boards from Chipamp.com laying in the drawer, so I'll try a pair of those instead of the 2x100.000uF Rifa approach.

Just remembered I have a single 300W 2x30V O-core transformer, so the hum issue should be cleared up in due time, that is, if the transformer is the sinner...

No response from Hypex yet, so no HxR12 regs yet.

My 6 channels UCD180HG with HxR regulator has been completed.
Sound is lovely, smooth, detailed. Signal/noise is very very good, better than previous 180ST (but now I use full balanced connections)

Many thanks to hypex staff !

Yes, you are right...tri amped, digital active crossover :

Its an bit like my system , also 6 mono's and managed with an DBX driverack 260, see the pic's

'I am following this forum for the Hypex because its energy efficency, noe my amp's use's a lot of current because the are all class A en take's an lot energy, its all money !

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

With kind regards from the Netherlands ADRIAAN = @3aan

Oh yes, same speaker family

😀

you can go with UCDs, please note that full balanced is better and the very best is to use the lowest gain, UCD is one of the only amp I know that can handle true balanced signal but with low gain, a must for high efficiency drivers !

good signal/noise. however, some classe AB power amps do better but UCD can be compared to triodes as well

Mouse in my amp

Hi
Yesterday night i started up my Ucd 180HG, sounds great...
except for a high frekvens sound, like a chopper frekvens coming out of my speakers when i turn the music off, like a chopper frekvens. It´s not loud but i can hear it betwen songs.
I have i Hypex HG supply but can the reason be that i have a 24-0-24 volt supply, can it be to low voltage ?
Does any one recognize the problem..

Hi
I bought 2 hypex UCD180HG version 2
Are they compatible with HxR regulators ? And if it is, how can i do this ?
I see that hypex UCD180HG version 1 aren't compatible without a transformation at Hypex but nothing on version 2.
Thanks for ansewering and best regards

The version II should be fine.

Look at the top of the board near where the two HxR regulators are designed to mount. There should be two outlines of resistors that are not populated.

You need to populate those two spots with a 680R resistor and remove the surface mount resistors on the underside of the board. Then you would solder in the HxR regulators where indicated.

Maybe stupid question, but here I am:

If I decide to install BOTH RCA and balanced input sockets, do I need a switch between them on the case? Or do I simply connect in- to in ground on the RCA socket...?
I guess I need a switch, but what is general consensus about this?
Thanks in advance to anyone.

What I do is make XLR cheater plugs. If you wire the RCA with center to Pin 2, and the ground to Pin 3, you need to short Pins 1 & 3 when the RCA is used. Make a male XLR with a wire soldered between Pins 1 & 3 and insert it in the female XLR when your using the RCA input.

Thanks Kevin, that's clear, but at that point a little switch on in- signal wire would probably be a simpler solution, maybe. At least more "elegant"... 🙂

Any other suggestion..?
