Well, I have done the same, both power- and input ground are flouting, thus neither is connected to the chassis.
You have a point, it could be the mains, but none of my other amps hum, so my best guess is the transformer. I will look into the mains and try different grounding connections before, I start shielding the transformer

My 6 channels UCD180HG with HxR regulator has been completed.
Sound is lovely, smooth, detailed. Signal/noise is very very good, better than previous 180ST (but now I use full balanced connections)

A good friend (Mr. G) has a servo controlled woofer (20-500 hz), TAD driver with Edgar Horns bi-amped. They sound pretty good too.

you can go with UCDs, please note that full balanced is better and the very best is to use the lowest gain, UCD is one of the only amp I know that can handle true balanced signal but with low gain, a must for high efficiency drivers !
good signal/noise. however, some classe AB power amps do better but UCD can be compared to triodes as well

I have i Hypex HG supply but can the reason be that i have a 24-0-24 volt supply, can it be to low voltage ?
Does any one recognize the problem..

I bought 2 hypex UCD180HG version 2
Are they compatible with HxR regulators ? And if it is, how can i do this ?
I see that hypex UCD180HG version 1 aren't compatible without a transformation at Hypex but nothing on version 2.

The version II should be fine.
Look at the top of the board near where the two HxR regulators are designed to mount. There should be two outlines of resistors that are not populated.
You need to populate those two spots with a 680R resistor and remove the surface mount resistors on the underside of the board. Then you would solder in the HxR regulators where indicated.

If I decide to install BOTH RCA and balanced input sockets, do I need a switch between them on the case? Or do I simply connect in- to in ground on the RCA socket...?
I guess I need a switch, but what is general consensus about this?

What I do is make XLR cheater plugs. If you wire the RCA with center to Pin 2, and the ground to Pin 3, you need to short Pins 1 & 3 when the RCA is used. Make a male XLR with a wire soldered between Pins 1 & 3 and insert it in the female XLR when your using the RCA input.

Thanks Kevin, that's clear, but at that point a little switch on in- signal wire would probably be a simpler solution, maybe. At least more "elegant"... 🙂

If I run the amps in balanced mode, how much DC can they tolerate? (goal is to DC couple an OPUS DAC to the UCD180 with a passive volume control)
